10/15/21
TGIF…Twin Groves it’s Friday!

What’s Happening at Twin Groves?

Spanish
In 6th grade Spanish, students will be continuing with me gusta + activities and then moving into the theme of school.
In 7th grade Spanish, students are working on subject pronouns and AR verbs.  Then, we will start with the verb estar.
In 8th grade Spanish, students are working on their interpersonal speaking skills.

Band
We are moving forward in all of our classes. Students are working on Rhythms, Scales, and Tone. We are beginning to roll out band pieces for performance. Our first performance will be November 15, 2021 for the jazz band and 5th grade cadet band. Our winter concert is Monday, December 13, 2021, which will include all of our band students.

On Tuesdays that we don’t have early dismissal students can come to master classes. The master classes are so we can give extended individual instrument  instruction to the students who play those particular instruments. I encourage students who play those instruments to come and receive the instruction and be with those who play their instrument across the grade levels. The class is from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM. This month we have the following classes:
-10/19 Percussion Master Class
-11/2 Saxophone Master Class
-11/9 Brass Master Class
-11/16 Percussion Master Class
-11/23 Double Reed Master Class

All students are now enrolled in SMART Music and have been given 5 pieces to work on for the month of October. Students should be working on these pieces at home. I comment on every submission students send. SMART Music is one of the ways we differentiate instruction in the band program.

The rest of this month and into the early part of November we will be getting ready for the solo and ensemble contest. Students will choose a solo to perform at the contest if they choose to take this opportunity. Solo/ensemble contest is a great opportunity to help students move forward in their instrumental development. All students will do a solo for a class project in the 2nd trimester. Please help me encourage your student  to take a solo to contest. The contest is Saturday, February 12.

Orchestra
The orchestra students have been busy learning, playing and having fun! All of our orchestra students are preparing for their first concert of the year on Wednesday, November 10th at 7pm at Twin Groves. More details to come!

In addition, the 6th Grade Orchestra students are working on counting and playing new rhythms. 7th Grade Orchestra students are working on shifting to 3rd position and reviewing one octave scales. The 8th Grade Orchestra students are working on reviewing two octave scales and started working on our Trimester 1 benchmark.
