TGIF…Twin Groves it’s Friday!
Next Monday, October 11th, there is no school. See you on the 12th!
What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
PE: As we start into October we will be finishing our kickball tournament. This unit is with all three classes together. We will be continuing with our cardio fitness days twice a week. Also in October the students will participate in an elective program to allow them to participate in an activity they are interested in. Group C will be in health starting 10/7.
Health: In the first rotation for health 6th graders will be diving into decision making and how to make good decisions. We will look at the impact of their decisions on others and how they can improve their decision making. Seventh graders will be investigating the health triangle and the three aspects of it. We will first look into self-esteem and goal setting as we begin this first trimester. Eighth graders will be looking into human sexuality this rotation. We will be discussing the reproductive systems, contraception including abstinence, sexually transmitted infections, the “Safe Haven” law, sexting laws, and sexual harassment.
Art: 6th grade just finished figure drawings using correct human proportions. We are now working with wire forms and paper mache pulp to create 3D figures. 7th grade just finished a Pop Art painting project based on their own drawing. We are now building clay coil pots. 8th grade just completed a clay bust with a message. To prepare for painting a personal quote, we are exploring typeface, layout and composition.
Music: Students finished their rhythm unit and transitioned to their listening unit where they described in musical terms what they were hearing in specific pieces. Our focus was tempo, rhythm and dynamics. Now we are working on the keyboard unit. 6th grade is focusing on melody, learning the notes and their place on the keyboard. 7th grade will focus on adding chords to melodies and 8th grade will put it all together. They are all off to a good start on their keyboard performances. When we are finished with keyboards, it’s off to composition.
TASOL: Students in 7th and 8th grade finished the career unit last week. Each student picked a career from one of the career clusters. They researched and presented their career to the class. We are moving forward to our sewing unit. All 7th and 8th graders have picked out a small 3D pillow to complete over the next few weeks. Sixth graders recently completed the career unit by creating their own resumes. They started working on their sewing projects which consists of a pillow with detail using three different stitches. Later this month, the 6th grade students will start working in the kitchens with introductory repcies.
