TGIF…Twin Groves it’s Friday!

Tik Tok Challenge- Parents Please Read
There is a current Tik Tok challenge that has been going viral. The challenge is called Devious Licks. The Tik Tok videos are showing students in numerous schools destroying school property, primarily in the bathrooms. They are stealing soap dispensers, soap, signs, sink and faucet handles, etc.
Please note that destruction of school property is considered a felony.
Unfortunately this has been happening at Twin Groves.
For any student involved, there will be disciplinary actions taken,
Please discuss this with your children and make them aware of the severity of this challenge and the disrespect that students are showing towards the school. I appreciate your support.

PTO Special Lunch Committee Members
The Twin Groves PTO is looking for Special Lunch Committee Members. There are MANY opportunities to get involved from home. There are many aspects of Special Lunch that do not require parents to be present at school during the  lunch hours.
Please reach out to Jessica Barnes at [email protected] or Keri Lynch at [email protected] if you are interested.

What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
Spanish
In 6th grade Spanish, students have been studying and practicing greetings and farewells.  We have studied cognates and will be starting the alphabet.
In 7th grade Spanish, students have been working on interpretive listening skills through the theme of school and telling time.
In 8th grade Spanish, students have been working on the theme of weather.  We worked on our interpretive listening and reading skills and will be practicing speaking on this theme too.

Band
The band classes are fun and students are learning. We are meeting every other day and seeing good results. The band classes after school have been meeting on a regular basis and sounding much better. Students are getting into the routine of their band schedule.

Orchestra
Orchestra is off to a great start this year! It is SO nice to have the students playing together in-person!

6th Grade Orchestra students are currently reviewing scales and starting to play from their new books. 7th Grade Orchestra is reviewing rhythms and learning how to play harmonics to help prepare them for shifting. 8th Grade Orchestra is currently reviewing 2 octave scales.

For those students that have signed up for ILMEA, auditions will be taking place virtually this year. Students will be recording videos and submitting them for their auditions by Monday, October 4th. If students pass through the audition, they will attend an in-person festival on Saturday, November 6th from 8am-12pm (Location TBD). Students who are auditioning for ILMEA should check the Schoology group for more information.

Fall Conferences
The Family/Educator conference dates are Thursday, October 7th from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Friday, October 8th from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
We will be using Meet the Teacher as an electronic sign up for conferences. A School Messenger email will be sent to families on Monday, September 20th at 6:00PM with a link to sign up for conferences.
Conferences will be held over Zoom unless parents request an in-person conference using the instructions below. Principals will share a document containing all the staff Zoom links with parents on Wednesday, October 6th at 2PM.

REQUESTING AN IN-PERSON CONFERENCE
After selecting the teachers you want to conference with and choosing a time for the conference(s), Meet the Teacher will prompt you to save the appointment and ask if you want to add a message for the teacher. If you want to have an in-person conference with the teachers, you must notify the teachers via this messaging feature (see picture below).

6th Grade parents will sign up for one, 10 minute time slot with their child’s 2nd period teacher.
7th Grade parents will sign up for one, 10 minute time slot with their child’s 1st period teacher.
8th Grade parents will sign up for one, 10 minute time slot with their child’s 1st period teacher.
