TGIF…Twin Groves it’s Friday!

In an effort to spread positivity, Twin Groves uses our 5 Traits to recognize exemplars of the following qualities: Responsible, Accountable, Respectful, Safe, and a Community. In addition to the 5 Traits, we are also recognizing students for being leaders, role models, supportive peers, brave, and positive.

As part of this focus, the Twin Groves Staff would like to recognize the following students who consistently demonstrate these qualities.

Jenna Alter
Sydney Entin
Eugene Faktor
Max Kazibut

What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
Spanish: The 6th graders have been studying the verb ser.  They will then learn the body parts and continue on to clothing.
The 7th graders have been studying food and will continue with the restaurant unit.
The 8th graders have learned chores and are using them to state commands and in the present progressive.  They will then move on to accessories and higher numbers.

Band:  The band students are increasing in their ability. Each grade just finished a set of scales and it was exciting to hear the students zoom up and down on their scales with good tone and a very smooth quality to their playing. This next trimester will feature another set of scales for each grade level. I expect the same and better results.

6th grade students will begin their 2nd book, Essential Elements for Band Book 2, on Tuesday March 2. Band students will need to have these books in their possession for the coming classes. This book can be purchased at any musical instrument store or on the web. It is a very popular book.

During the month of March students will be preparing themes from movie or musical soundtracks. We will present these in a special slide presentation to parents later in the month. We have some music and students can find music on the web also, but if your students asks you to help them find some music from the music store there are several books out there that have movie and musical themes already prepared for students on any instrument.

Orchestra: In 6th Grade Orchestra students have been working on learning the concept of syncopation, through rhythmic exercises, as well as through music. They are also figuring out how to play B flats on the instrument for use in the F Major scale, which will allow them to be able to play a greater variety of repertoire. We have also been experimenting with our ability to tune our instruments, working to utilize the pegs along with the fine tuners for better use of self-directed tuning.

In 7th Grade Orchestra students have continued to develop their ability to play in different positions on the instrument, as well as their work with the key of A Major. A major piece they have been working on (their benchmark for the trimester) features this new key, as well as some new positions on their instruments. Rhythmically 7th graders have also been expanding their knowledge by learning how to play triplets, featured in many works.

In 8th Grade Orchestra students have been learning a few more complex flat keys (B flat & E flat Major) for use in a new piece they are working on (their benchmark for the trimester). The piece features complex position work as well newer rhythmic patterns. They have also been improving their key signature identification, utilizing new tricks to quickly analyze keys when sight-reading.
