In an effort to spread positivity, Twin Groves uses our 5 Traits to recognize exemplars of the following qualities: Responsible, Accountable, Respectful, Safe, and a Community. In addition to the 5 Traits, we are also recognizing students for being leaders, role models, supportive peers, brave, and positive.

As part of this focus, the Twin Groves Staff would like to recognize the following students who consistently demonstrate these qualities.

Clara Chen
Dylan Entin
Shanti Kamma
Lily Marcus
Evan Mishels
Brooke Olsen
Akhil Ramasani
Hemanth Samayamantri

Monday, February 1st is our first day of in person learning for our 7th and 8th graders with the last names beginning with A-L.
Thursday, February 4th is our first day of in person learning for our 7th and 8th graders with the last names beginning with M-Z.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR PARENTS OF IN-PERSON LEARNERS
Parents who have children coming in must do their daily self-certification.  It significantly slows down our arrival procedures when students don't have this.

Please remember that completing the daily self-certification is a commitment you made for your child to attend in-person. If there are repeat incidences for the daily self-certification the student may need to go back to remote learning.  Please set alarm reminders for yourself.  We do not want anyone to have to move back to remote learning for this reason.

To access the required Daily Self-Certification Form, you need to log into TeacherEase each day your student will attend in person to submit self-certification.

This VIDEO gives instructions, including how to access the daily self-certification form using your cell phone (iOS or android).

If you will be using your home computer to send daily self-certification, we suggest that you bookmark the TeacherEase website. The link is: https://www.teacherease.com/common/login.aspx

NEW * REVISED FREE MEAL PREORDERING AND PICK-UP INFO*
Extended in-person preordering deadline
Due to an issue with the Linq website preventing families of in-person students from preordering for the week ahead, the preordering deadline for the week of Feb. 1–5 has been extended to Sun., Jan. 31, at 6 PM. Preorder meals for in-person days next week at onlineordering.linq.com

New meals distribution quantity/schedule
Families of remote students (and those who want to pick up free meals for the days their in-person students are remote) will receive two meals when picking up on Mon., Feb. 1.

On Wed., Feb. 3, they will receive meal supplies for five meals.

Beginning the following week (the week of Feb. 8), there will no longer be meal pick up on Mondays. Instead, meal supplies for five meals will be distributed on Wednesdays. Pick up hours/location 11 AM–2 PM at Twin Groves and Woodlawn Middle Schools parking lots will remain the same.

What’s happening at TG?
Spanish
The 6th graders have been working on adjectives all month.  They started with colors, physical descriptions, and now are learning personality traits.
The 7th graders have been learning sports, hobbies, and pastimes vocabulary.  They are also focusing on the verbs ir and jugar.
The 8th graders started off the month with bedroom vocabulary.  They are now learning about the rooms of the house and chores.  They have also learned about o-ue stem changing verbs.

Band
Currently all band students are preparing for their solo presentations. Students will record these next week and then we will listen to them with their class the first week of February.  Students are also working on a special challenge I gave them this week called, “The President’s Own, Training Band.” All students are required to play two songs from a list of patriotic pieces often heard at the inauguration. If they play all 5 songs well and with the metronome on they will get a certificate next week stating they are a part of The President’s Own Training Band. This is not an easy task, but neither is being a part of The President’s Own band, who is committed to excellence at the highest level. Students are also working hard in SMART Music. All students are currently on the Spiral curriculum and if they pass three levels they will have completed a full year’s growth on their instrument. This month the expectation for them is to be finished with their first level. When students are practicing we see growth. Seeing students grow in their ability is fun.

Orchestra
The 6th Grade Orchestra students are currently working on new rhythms. The 7th Graders have been working on 3rd position on all strings as well as reviewing scales. The 8th Graders have been working on 2 octave scales. All groups have been working on our rehearsal pieces and practicing with Smartmusic.

On January 14th, the 8th Grade Orchestra students attended the Stevenson High School 8th Grade Orchestra Consortium Event! This event took place virtually and our 8th Graders were able to connect with the SHS Orchestra Directors, current SHS Orchestra and Guitar students, as well as other 8th Graders from our consortium. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn about the orchestra program as they start deciding their future at SHS!
