What’s Happening at TG?
PE: The students will continue with the schedule of fitness days on Tuesday and Thursday.  Activity days will be Monday, Wednesday and a choice day on Friday.  We want to get the students outside as much as possible while weather permitting.  Most students have picked up their blue PE supply bag. If you have not picked yours up, please contact the main office and schedule a pick up time.  There are a few pieces of equipment that the students will use remotely, as well as when we get back to in-person.  The students have had a great attitude during remote learning and are doing a great job.

Health: Sixth grade students have been learning about decision making, creating online bully free comics and building their resiliency skills.  They also are learning about basic first aid and the skills to treat someone if they become injured or ill.  Such first aid topics include EDITH floor plans, hypothermia, shock, seizure, frostbite, choking, burns, fracture, and more.  In seventh grade we have been working on what the health triangle is and why it is important to keep all sides of the triangle healthy.  In addition, the seventh graders have been learning about self esteem and grit.  The eighth graders have started off the school year learning about nutrients and proper nutrition.  They have even created a food and fitness plan for a client of their choice.

Art: We just finished our first projects and I was thrilled with the results!  All grades are working with the watercolor supplies they received in their kits.  If you have not picked up your art supply kits, please do so asap!  6th graders will be learning about the color wheel, how to create colors and how they relate to each other.  They will also learn how to mix tints & shades.  7th graders will be creating a landscape using knowledge of opacity, texture, detail, and layering to create depth.  8th graders will be learning about typography, typefaces, fonts, and layout & composition in order to paint a favorite quote.

Music: This month students have been working on getting to know the musical staff by using several software programs related to music theory. We finished the rhythm unit which helped to prepare us for melody. If you have instruments at home, hopefully, you may begin to hear them practicing on them. Next week, we will continue working on melody and composition in our Breezin Thru program. We have also been doing some listening to different pieces and working on our “analyzing and describing skills” using musical terminology.

The Art of Science and Living: This month in TASOL has been busy. The 7th and 8th grade students have been focused on making informed decisions using nutrition labels and facts. Students looked at a variety of labels and identified healthy choices.  Starting next week, students will start learning new cooking techniques and familiarizing themselves with different utensils and cooking tools. They will also complete a mini unit on consumerism. Students will look at how to make purchases using informative decision making procedures. Sixth grade has been working on a career unit. They looked at different career clusters and how their own interests and abilities could fit into different careers paths. This week they completed their own resumes. They will start their sewing projects next week which consists of a pillow with detail using three different stitches.
