TGIF…Twin Groves it’s Friday!
What’s Happening at TG?
Spanish
In 6th grade Spanish, students have been studying and practicing greetings and farewells. We have studied cognates and will be starting the alphabet.
In 7th grade Spanish, students have been working on interpretive listening skills through the theme of school and telling time.
In 8th grade Spanish, students have been working on the theme of weather. We worked on our interpretive listening and reading skills and will be practicing speaking on this theme too.
Band
We have had a very good start to our year. The students are working hard, playing for each other, and having fun. I believe this is going to be a great year for our band.
We are currently working on scales and going through the Essential Elements books. All of our students are in Smart music and will be using this program heavily throughout the year. All of our band pieces for the Concert, Honor, and Jazz bands will be in Smart music so all of the students can hear their pieces played by a full group.
We have several students trying out for ILMEA this year. The auditions will be October 1 - 15. IGSMA Solo and Ensemble contest will be held on December 4 instead of early February, so all students will begin to work on a solo within the next couple of weeks. Most solos will be in Smart music so students can hear the accompaniment and hear their solo being played. I encourage all students to be in the contest. It will be virtual, but it will be an excellent opportunity for students to get feedback on their playing. I will be sending more information out about the contest in the next couple of weeks.
Orchestra
It has been a fantastic start of the year so far in orchestra!
6th Grade Orchestra students are reviewing our scales and learning to play them by memory!
Please remind your child to check their lesson schedule. This is located on Schoology on our course page. 6th Grade Orchestra rehearsals meet Mondays & Wednesdays after school from 2:30-3:15.
7th Grade Orchestra students are learning/reviewing how to shift to 3rd position. Just a reminder that 7th Grade Orchestra rehearsals take place on Tuesdays only after school from 2:30-3:15.
8th Grade Orchestra students are learning/reviewing 2 octave scales and sight reading rhythms. Just a reminder that 8th Grade Orchestra rehearsals take place on Thursdays only after school from 2:30-3:15.
Picture Day
Picture Day is coming! Please mark your calendars for Picture Day on Wednesday, September 23rd. Pictures will be done outside this year in the main parking lot. An attached map is provided for you to see how this will work.

For safety and convenience, our photo days this year will be going paperless. All images will be posted online to view and order within a week after your photo day, and all orders will be delivered straight to your door. If you’d like to be notified when upcoming photos are ready to view, click here!
To place your order after photo day, just go to vipis.com to view and order your photos.
Follow these guidelines to ensure Picture Day runs smoothly:
Arrive at the SPECIFIC time for each grade level:
6th 3:00pm - 4:15pm
7th 4:30pm - 5:45pm
8th 5:45pm - 7:00pm
-Drop students off so they may proceed to the student check-in area, waiting in a socially distanced line as necessary (students will wear masks except when being photographed & will maintain 6ft social distance when waiting in line)
-After checking in, students will move to one of the four photography tents to have their picture taken (photographers will be masked and maintaining social distance)
-Parents may park while waiting, but remain in cars to prevent crowding and ensure appropriate social distancing
-When photography is finished, students will exit the tents and find parents
Follow the traffic pattern in the parking lot as indicated by the pink arrows on the attached map
MAKEUP DAY: For those that could not attend picture day or would like a retake, this will be done on Saturday, October 17th, from 10am-1pm at the same location & using the same procedures.
