Twin Groves Student Recognized for Stop the Bullying Message
Following a CHOICES presentation in teacher Jen Didech's classroom by Buffalo Grove School Resource Officer Ashley Krozel, Twin Groves 6th-grader Sydney Shifrin, was inspired to send a plea to the world: Stop the Bullying.

With images and music she selected, she used an app and her District 96 iPad to create a brief video. Sydney uses a series of questions to invite honest self-examination and personal reflection about who is a bully, what bullying looks like, and the pain of being the target of bullying. She challenges viewers to put an end to bullying and cyberbullying and to step up to be a friend.

District 96 Buffalo Grove Police Department School Resource Officer Ashley Krozel has since incorporated the video into her presentations to elementary and middle school students and Sydney will be awarded a plaque from the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

What’s Happening at Twin?

PE
As the third trimester gets underway we will be heading outside. Students should keep a sweatshirt in their PE locker to have available. As we start heading outside, our fitness focus will be on cardiovascular endurance. Weather permitting we will have two cardio days a week, with the other three days being activity days. Starting out the activities will be team handball and indoor soccer. Fridays we will have choice days. This is when students can choose an activity for the day.

Health
This rotation, the 6th graders will be working on understanding the human body and how the systems are interrelated. We will also discuss hygiene and human growth and development.  The seventh graders are learning about drugs that affect the Buffalo Grove/Lincolnshire area.  These include prescription drug abuse, marijuana, alcohol, heroin, and vaping. A drug research project will be done at the end of the rotation. In eighth grade, students are learning about communicable and non-communicable disease. We have discussed COVID-19, STI’s, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.  The 8th graders will also participate in SOS (Signs of Suicide).

TASOL
Welcome to TASOL for Trimester 3! This month in 7th and 8th grade, we are working on the five basic steps of laundry and care for clothing. Later this month, we will start focusing on career choices. Students will choose a career to research and create a presentation for the class. In 6th grade, we have been looking at family functions and will create a family crest to represent those functions within each individual's family. Later this month, students will explore different career clusters and will begin creating a resume.

Music
Welcome to Trimester 3 of General Music. As we get started in music for the next few weeks we will be writing and singing songs. 6th Grade will begin a quick project creating a simple RAP and recording it in Garageband. 7th grade starts with a rhythm unit, and then creates a “Stomp-Like” project using the rhythm sticks. 8th grade will begin the trimester creating musical accompaniments to underscore a poem they will record in Garageband. We are off to a quick start in music, and look forward to keyboards and guitars after spring break.

Art
Thank you to everyone who came to the Art Fair Club art show last night during the concert celebrating Music In Our Schools Month.  The artwork was amazing!
