MAP ASSESSMENTS AUGUST 20–29

District 96 students in kindergarten through Grade 8 will be participating in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in the areas of math and reading/language arts during portions of their school days August 20–29.

The MAP assessment is given three times during the school year to equip our teachers with data they will use to identify their students' current understanding as well as opportunities for support and extension. Students do not need to study for their MAP tests; sufficient sleep and nutrition are, as always, the best preparation. This assessment serves as a benchmark–a point in time from which to measure academic growth through the academic year.

For more information about MAP assessments, please see the following resources:

PARENT’S GUIDE TO MAP GROWTH (Need a TRANSLATION?)

ABOUT MAP: PARENT TOOLKIT

In September KCSD96 parents will receive info by email with directions for accessing their child’s MAP assessment results online.

If you have questions about MAP assessments, please contact your student’s principal.

Snack

District 96 has revised the APPROVED SNACK LIST, adding more items to this list to give families more choices. The items the list includes are free of the Top 8 allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.

This list includes the foods that are approved for students' Daily Snacks. It also includes (for children in Grades 1–5) foods approved for Special Events such as birthday treats for a class or for PTO Halloween, Winter, or Valentine's Day parties. Please note...the Special Events list is NOT for daily snack.  Twin Groves does not have Special Events during the school day requiring snacks.

IMPORTANT: All items for Daily Snacks, with the exception of fruits and vegetables, MUST be prepackaged to allow staff to easily check that snacks meet the approved requirements.

To maximize learning time, the students will be eating and working at the same time.  Please remember that students should only have one snack per day. In addition, if an approved, prepackaged snack requires a spoon or fork, please remember to send it with your child. We are not providing spoons or forks.

Director of Educational Services Amy Gluck also has provided responses to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) about foods approved for daily snacks/special events.

For your convenience, find links to the District 96 Approved Snack List and Approved Snack List FAQs on the homepage of the District 96 website and the homepage of each school.

Upcoming Sports

If you are interested in trying out for Soccer, Cross Country, or Girls Basketball, you must have a current physical on file with the nurse. Students will not be allowed to tryout or join a sport without a current physical.

Cross Country

Cross Country Sign Up for 6,7,8 Boys and Girls

The cross country team is open to girls and boys in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Students will be running a two mile race in our meets. Boys and girls will practice together and run many meets together but there will be a few meets: conference, sectionals, and the state meet where the girls will run first and then the boys. The practices will be structured to help students have the endurance to run the race, understand the team concept about cross country, and learn how to set goals for themselves so they can run the best time possible.

We will be starting practice on Monday, August 20, and end on Saturday, October 13, the state meet. Practices will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15 pm to 4:45 pm, Tuesday 3:45 - 4:45 PM, and Friday from 2:30 - 3:15 pm. Friday practices will be exempt for students in jazz band and chamber orchestra. In order for students to practice, a sports medical form must be on file with the school nurse, Mrs. Borzych.

Coach Kile and Coach Nagle will communicate with the students via schoology and the parents via email. Please fill out the form below to register your student for the 2018 Twin Groves Cross Country team.
