Approved Snacks: What Parents Need to Know

The District has revised the APPROVED SNACK LIST, adding more items to this list to give families more choices. The items the list includes are free of the Top 8 allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.

This list includes the foods that are approved for students' Daily Snacks. It also includes (for children in Grades 1–5) foods approved for Special Events such as birthday treats for a class or for PTO Halloween, Winter, or Valentine's Day parties. Please note...the Special Events list is NOT for daily snack.

IMPORTANT: All items for Daily Snacks, with the exception of fruits and vegetables, MUST be prepackaged to allow staff to easily check that snacks meet the approved requirements.

Director of Educational Services Amy Gluck also has provided responses to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) about foods approved for daily snacks/special events.

For your convenience, find links to the District 96 Approved Snack List and Approved Snack List FAQs on the homepage of the District 96 website and the homepage of each school.

Cross Country-6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Students

This year the Twin Groves cross country team will be coached by Mr. Tim Kile and Mr. Daniel Nagle. Coach Kile and Coach Nagle are very excited about the season ahead and working with your student(s). The cross country team is open to girls and boys in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Students will be running a two mile race in our meets. Boys and girls will practice together and run many meets together but there will be a few meets: conference, sectionals, and the state meet where the girls will run first and then the boys. The practices will be structured to help students have the endurance to run the race, understand the team concept about cross country, and learn how to set goals for themselves so they can run the best time possible. Our goals are:

1.) To see each student improve their 2-mile time because of goals they have set for themselves,

2.) Have a very positive team concept,

3.) Bring as many students to state as we can,

4.) Have a lot of fun.

We will be starting practice on Monday, August 20, and end on Saturday, October 13, the State Meet. Practices will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15 pm to 4:45 pm, Tuesday 3:45 - 4:45 PM, and Friday from 2:30 - 3:15 pm. Friday practices will be exempt for students in Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra. In order for students to practice, a  sports medical form must be on file with the school nurse, Mrs. Borzych.

Coach Kile and Coach Nagle will communicate with the students via schoology and the parents via email. A Google Form for registration will be sent out once school starts.

In addition, the Cross Country Coaches have created a Spirit Store for Cross Country. Information on ordering will be sent out by the coaches soon. The deadline to order will be August 21st. Please note, students will not be receiving the Spirit Wear orders until the end of the season.
