Prairie Principal's Message - 12.8.23

Musical performers at our Prairie Variety Show

Good afternoon Prairie Families,

This past week, students worked hard to complete their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Test in both subject areas of literacy and math. Our entire staff is proud of the efforts our students put forth during the testing and we know that each student is showing growth in a variety of areas as the school year continues to unfold.

We also hosted our Prairie Variety Show on Wednesday, December 6th. Our students put their amazing talents on display in two different shows. We watched amazing performances from musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, and even a game coder!  Thank you to Ms. Heuer and Mrs. Muehling for organizing such a fun and entertaining evening.

As a reminder, please ensure that your child is adequately prepared for the winter weather with appropriate clothing to go outside for recess.

Have a great weekend,

Lauren Delahanty

Take a look at our super talented Pumas who performed in the Variety Show this week!

NEW *MAP Retest - Kindergarten/1st Grade ONLY*

This is a follow-up to the message sent on Wednesday, 12/6 concerning the technology issues that impacted the administration of Kindergarten/First Grade NWEA MAP testing for some students. We are rescheduling that MAP assessment for those students who did not finish. The retest day is Tuesday, 12/12. Students who completed the assessment for will not test on that day.

NEW *Spirit Week 12/18-12/21*

As a fun way to lead up to Winter Break, Prairie is having a December Spirit Week! Each day from 12/18 to 12/21 will have a different theme. See below:
Monday = Color Day (by grade - 1st purple, 2nd orange, 3rd red, 4th green, 5th pink, teachers rainbow)
Tuesday = Twin day
Wednesday = Formal day
Thursday = Winter PJs day

REPEAT *Recess During the Winter*

For students to play in the snow, they must have snow pants, boots, gloves, and a jacket.  This applies to both the field and the playground area. This ensures that their clothes, hands, and feet are dry for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon.  Students who do not have snow pants and boots can still play on the blacktop area.

REPEAT *Newcomer Coffee and Conversation*

District 96 hosts a Newcomer Coffee & Conversation for parents and guardians of newly registered students, to give them an opportunity to ask questions and share information about their transition.

#

This year’s Coffee starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Ivy Hall Elementary School (Mat Room), 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.

It is an informal opportunity for these new parents and guardians to ask questions and share their thoughts ~ with other parents and staff ~ about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can glean from the experiences of others.

New parents/guardians who missed the New Family Tours in August are encouraged to attend this conversation.  Those who did attend the tours are welcome to join this conversation to share how they are adjusting to the District 96 culture.

Coffee and other refreshments will be served.

For planning purposes, RSVP by December 13 at https://forms.gle/Kn5SkyzZFbHgtyCn7.

This is an event only for parents and guardians.

Got questions?  Email Lubna K. Andrabi, Community Parent Liaison, at [email protected].

REPEAT *Lost and Found*

Our lost and found is overflowing with items! Students have been asked to check for any items that they might have misplaced. The lost and found is present every day in our Multipurpose Room. Please remind your students to check the lost and found for any missing items. Any items left after we leave for winter break will be donated.
