Prairie Principal's Message - 9.15.23

September 15th, 2023

Good Afternoon Prairie Families,

Another great week of learning is in the books! As I walk through the hallways and classrooms at Prairie, I have observed that the school year is well underway and both teachers and students have settled into their new classrooms. Students were so enthusiastic about their WOW Tickets this week! We announced the first winners yesterday during the morning announcements and students were treated to a fun WOW video during lunch periods! Our winners are celebrated below:

Just today I was able to see our students participate in the Erin’s Law presentation in all grade levels, complete owl pellet dissection in 5th grade, and celebrate Lexia-level achievements in 1st grade! I am looking forward to seeing what fun next week will bring.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Lauren Delahanty

Important September Dates

  • Tuesday, September 19 - Early Release Day
  • Thursday, September 21 - Fire Drill
  • Friday, September 22 - Scamper Fun Run
  • Monday, September 25 - No School - District Holiday

NEW - *Fire Drill*

On Thursday, September 21st, Prairie will be conducting a Fire Drill. Students will be evacuating the building during the drill. If the weather does not cooperate, we will reschedule the drill and communicate the rescheduled drill date.

NEW - *Library News*

District 96 has added the Sora app to student iPads. This allows students to check out books from our online library. It should already be downloaded, but if it is not, then it can be found in self-service.

Please encourage your child to check out books only if they are going to actually read them. There are preview pages with each book allowing students to see if the book is something they are interested in reading. Books are purchased per checkout, so if the book is checked out without being read, that is one less checkout that can be enjoyed by the children in our district.

Most students have been taught to use the app during their time in the learning center. As a reminder, please use our district name (Kildeer Countryside) to log in, NOT Prairie School. Feel free to contact me if you have difficulty with the app. The Sora app is so easy and convenient. Think of it as a Kindle library for kids!

NEW - *Art News*

In art class we are using an app called Artsonia. The app creates a digital portfolio of their artwork. Every time a student finishes a work of art they take a picture of their artwork and post it to the site. Please look for an email from Artsonia, so you can sign up for your child’s fan club and get an email notification when your child creates a new artwork. Artsonia is also a great way for grandparents, aunts and uncles to see their artwork too!

NEW - *Puma Pals Club*

*Puma Pals Club* is open to 1st-5th graders!

Puma Pals Club will be happening this year to help students build relationships with students outside of their classroom and grade level! We will have sessions available for 13 1st-3rd graders and 13 4th-5th graders! Our focus this year is to create Puma Pals Buddies among older and younger grades. We will play team-building games, have discussions, and get to know each other throughout the year! We will meet on Thursdays from 3:05-3:45 pm in Room 13 in the green pod.

If you are interested in signing up for Puma Pals please complete the Google Form below. Because we can only have a limited number of students participating, Miss Weil and Ms. McHugh will send an email confirming when the club has been filled. Slots will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.

In case of bad weather, the Scamper will be held Friday, September 29th.
