Principal's Message 11.18.22

Dear Prairie Families,

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our Family Reading Night this week.  We appreciate your braving the cold winter temperatures, snow, and blowing winds.  It was a fun night of reading with our teachers and doing activities that complemented the books we read.  A big thank you to Mrs. Spivack for organizing the evening for us!

Next week brings us the Thanksgiving holiday.  We have so much to be thankful for in our school community.  We have wonderful and caring teachers, support staff, and office staff members; an absolutely beautiful school; a dedicated custodial staff that takes such good care of our building and grounds; smiling and happy food service employees, and so much more.  And, of course, we are thankful for our wonderful students and supportive parents.

I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving that is full of happy memories to carry into the future.

Kindly,

Christine Pfaff

Principal

 NEW *MAP TESTING*

All students in grades K-8 will be participating in NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment. The MAP assessment is a normed-referenced, computerized adaptive test that helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth.  Like in previous years, all students will be taking the MAP test in reading and math during the school day. Testing will take place on December 5th and December 6th.

NEW *RECESS DURING WINTERY WEATHER*

For students to play in the snow, they must have snow pants, boots, gloves, and a jacket.  This applies to both the field and the playground area. This ensures that students' clothes, hands, and feet are dry for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon.  Students who do not have snow pants and boots can still play on the blacktop area.

We do go outside in the winter.  Our temperature marker for indoor recess is 10 degrees or less.  We also take into consideration "real feel" even when the temps is above 10 degrees.  This might come into play on a very windy day.

As always, please make sure your child's garments are labeled.  We love give labeled items back to students before donating them.
