Principal's Message 10.28.22

Dear Parents,

Students and staff are excited about our upcoming Halloween festivities on Monday.  Please see the specific information below about our activities.  We look forward to seeing you tonight at our Trunk-or-Treat event.  Please be sure to dress in layers as the entire event will be outside and it might be a bit chilly.

The weather this weekend looks lovely.  Please take some time to enjoy the last days of the beautiful fall foliage.  Hopefully, you can get outside for a lovely walk in the forest preserve.

Kindly,

Christine Pfaff - Principal

NEW *Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) Score Reports*

Last year, students in third to eighth grade were eligible to take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Individual score reports will be mailed out next week for any students who took the assessment.

If you have questions about your child’s IAR report, direct them to his or her teacher; your school principal; or Jason Keenon, Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning, at [email protected].

NEW *Lost & Found*

We will soon be donating items that are in our lost & found. If your child is missing something, please encourage them to look in the lost & found for it.  We are happy to return items to students that are labeled so please label your child’s items.

NEW *Student Sense of Belonging Survey*

In District 96, we believe that feedback from students regarding their perception of the school climate and teacher-student relationships provides valuable input about their sense of belonging. Our school district is committed to providing our students with every opportunity to succeed. Substantial research indicates that supporting students’ social-emotional development improves their readiness to learn, positive classroom engagement, and overall academic performance. As a result, District 96 will administer a student belonging survey to all students EC-8. These surveys are below for your review. A physical copy will be available from the district office upon request.  You will find a letter HERE from Mr. Bob Hanrahan, Director of Educational Services, explaining more about our commitment to understanding students' sense of belonging.

NEW *Halloween Parade ~ Monday, October 31st*

If you are able, we'd love to see a slew of parents and other family members at our Halloween parade.  Weather permitting, the Halloween parade will start at approximately 1:15 pm.  Students will exit the school through the art/music doors along Kingsbridge Way.  We will travel toward Brandywyn Lane, through the front circle, and re-enter the school at the gym doors.  Bring your cameras to catch this adorable elementary school moment of your child.

If the weather is inclement, we will have the parade indoors without family attendees.  A School Messenger will be sent by 12pm on Monday if the outside parade will be canceled.

REPEAT *Halloween Costumes*

Our Halloween festivities will be here before we know it.  We look forward to students dressing in their Halloween costumes for our Halloween Parade and classroom parties on Monday, Oct. 31st.  Please help us with the following costume guidelines.  Students will change into their costumes after their lunch period at school.  Please ensure that your child can get the costume on with no or minimal help.

Costumes must be appropriate for school.  If costumes are not school-appropriate the student will be asked to remove their costume.

  • Please no masks, blood, super scary stuff, general ickiness, or weapons
  • Please no cigars or cigarette items
  • Please no bare tummies
  • Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple

***All costume changes will occur at school, not at home.***

REPEAT *Cooler Weather is Upon Us*

The leaves are providing us with a beautiful backdrop during recess.  Please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothes as the temperature drops.  Dressing in layers is always a good idea.  Don't forget hats, gloves, and scarves.  Please label your child’s items so that if they find their way to the Lost and Found, the item can be returned to your child.
