We hope this Principal’s Message finds you and your family well.  If you have not already, please make sure to see below for information regarding student material pick up and an opportunity to sign up.  Also, please read Superintendent Schmidt's May 13th Message.

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to continuing the remote learning journey with students next week!

Warmly,

New: Food Donations During Student Materials Pick-up

During student materials pick-up next week, we will also have a box to donate food items for families in need. There will be no coolers available at the school, so please make sure you only bring items that do not need to be refrigerated. If you have refrigerated items, those need to go directly to the ELC. Please review Superintendent Schmidt’s recent message to view the needed items!

New: Elementary Student Material Pick-Up

Elementary Student Material Pick-Up will take place:

Wednesday, May 20th from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Thursday, May 21st from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Friday, May 22nd from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

If you will NOT be picking up your child’s materials and would prefer for student materials and personal belongings to be donated, please complete the Prairie OPT OUT: Student Material Pick Up form.  By completing this form, you are indicating that you are aware that all student personal belongings, supplies, and materials will be donated and will not be available for pick up in the future.

As always, our top priority continues to be the health and safety of our D96 staff and community.  Please read the following details closely to ensure that all health and social distancing guidelines are adhered to.

DIRECTIONS:

Sign up for one 15 minute slot using this Sign-Up Genius link.  If you have multiple children in various grade levels, you will pick up all of their materials at the same time.

Materials pick up will take place in the circle drive by the front door to the school which is the parent pick-up and drop-off area.  Be sure to come at your scheduled time.

You will enter the circular drive and PLEASE FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS of staff directing traffic.  Please do not exit your vehicle here, but be prepared to open your trunk or area of your vehicle where your student items can be placed.  Once you have obtained your materials, please exit the circle drive promptly and safely.  We are asking that you do not converse with others including staff.  You may email any questions you have before or after the materials pick up process.

If your child has school library books or textbooks in his/her possession, please bring them with you and place them in the bin at the end of the circle drive.  Also, if you are returning materials to a teacher, please put the item(s) in a ziploc bag and put the teacher's name on it.  You may need to exit your vehicle to do this.

Hold up a sheet of paper in the car window with your last name and grade level printed in large, bold print.

To keep the student pick up process manageable, we will NOT be sending student materials home with other families.  Thank you for your understanding.

If you will not be returning to District 96 in the fall, we will have a separate date/time for technology collection.  The purpose of this 15-minute slot is to return student materials to families and library books to the school.

New: Student iPads

Due to both our expanded virtual options for June and our intention to share suggestions and resources for continued learning with families over the summer, ALL RETURNING DISTRICT 96 STUDENTS WILL KEEP THEIR IPADS DURING THE SUMMER. We are pleased to be able to offer families and our students ongoing access to this resource. Please remind kids to continue to take care of these iPads. They will need them in the fall!

New:  End of Year Gifts for Staff

Many of you have asked about delivering End-of-Year gifts for staff.  Given that staff will not be present during Material Pick Up and will not receive your gifts until the fall, we ask that you please refrain from bringing gifts with you to drop off at Material Pick Up.  If you feel strongly about thanking the incredible staff that works with your child(ren), please consider a virtual gift that can be delivered to their email.  Thank you for your understanding!

New:  Refunds for Field Trips

Refund checks for field trips will be included with your child’s materials that you will retrieve during student material pick-up.

New: No Instruction/Slideshows on Friday, May 22nd

Looking ahead to next week there will be new instruction/slideshows sent to students on Friday, May 22nd.  The purpose of this day is for students to catch up on any work they have not been able to complete and submit it to their teachers.  Instruction will begin again for Tuesday, May 26th.  Remember that Monday, May 25th is Memorial Day.

New: Information Regarding Canceled PTO Events and Programs

Dear Prairie Families,

Refunds for canceled PTO events and programs, due to the government-mandated school closures, will be processed in the form of an account credit on your Prairie Membership Toolkit (MTK) parent account.

Account credits can be used for any future Prairie PTO purchase on MTK (dessert day, special lunch, spirit wear, gym clothes, etc) and can be used for any of your continuing or incoming students at Prairie but cannot be transferred between schools.

Account credits will be applied on May 15th.  To check your account credit balance, please log in to your Prairie membership toolkit account here. Once logged in, your credit balance will be shown on your Forms home page.

You can use your Prairie account credit in one of three ways:
