Regarding the Coronavirus: Info and Guidance for Schools

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has issued this information and guidance–including Frequently Asked Questions regarding the coronavirus–for families whose students attend Illinois Kdg–Grade 12 schools.

The info includes this related link to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, which is frequently updated.

The IDPH continues to advise that the best way to prevent infection by this virus is similar to the precautions recommended to avoid the seasonal flu, including frequent hand washing.

Valentine's Day Parties

Please remember that if you are donating snacks and/or drinks for the winter parties on February 14th, these items MUST come from the Approved Snack List. Please also have these items at school by Wednesday, February 14th at 9:00 am to be approved by the nurse.

Avoid good bags and please do not tape candy to Valentines. No candy means no candy. I really like candy, but we need to abide by the rules.

Erin’s Law (Repeat)

An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault. For more information about this presentation please go to www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2

The presentation to Prairie Elementary School students will be during the school day on February 10, 2020. If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request - or your questions - to me at [email protected]

What’s happening in P.E.?

We are so happy to be active in the gym especially during the winter months. Our students continue to work on their fitness levels, health and nutrition and basketball/dribbling skills. It’s a perfect time to start our jump rope unit for 3rd-5th grade and locomotor movement for 1st & 2nd graders to keep our hearts healthy and strong which leads us to:

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE IS ALMOST HERE!

It's not too late to register for our PRAIRIE school team at heart.org/jump. If you have been raising funds at home, the envelope with the money is due on or before our event on Wednesday, Feb. 12th. Also, paper permission slips to attend the event should be handed in no later than Friday, February 7th so we can organize our fun and exciting activities! That event is in our gym from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Thank you for your support, spreading the message and being a Heart Hero! Mrs. Lehtman & Mr. Nickle.
