Photography Club

Our Photography Club led by Mr. Morris and Miss Abramowicz has been hard at work capturing events and daily life around Prairie all school year.  This morning they took some time to update the photographs on display in the office and around the building.  Next time you're at school, take a few minutes to view this photography art galary for an appreciation the skills our Photography Club members are learning and to look at some super cute kid shots.

Notice of 5Essentials Student Survey Administration

I want to inform you about a student survey for 4th–8th graders that will be administered at your child’s school.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. The survey asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

Students will be required to log in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions. Instead, they will receive only aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material, for example.

Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions your student(s) are asked. Find survey questions on the Illinois 5Essentials website  (https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois).

If you do not want your son or daughter to participate, please contact me at [email protected]

Culture Fair

On Friday, March 15, 2019 the Prairie School community will come together for our 2nd "Prairie Culture Fair" event.
Our school is a melting pot of cultures from around the globe and we'd like to celebrate that! We want to encourage our families to learn about other cultures and what makes us all unique, while also recognizing that we share many cultural traits and common values as a community. We hope that you will join us!

Culture is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, region, people, or other social groups. We have many different countries represented by our families. We also have students from across the United States with unique cultures from states and cities such as Texas, Hawaii, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

If your family is interested in participating in this event, please let us know by completing this form. We know that it will be fun and exciting to share your culture and that our school community will really enjoy learning about our diversity. Please make sure to tell your friends and neighbors and sign up too, HERE on this form.

Birthday Books

Join the Prairie Celebrates Book Club to celebrate your child’s birthday (or any life event). Families donate $15 to purchase a new book for the Prairie School Library.  You may donate at any time this year. We will honor your child by putting a plaque with their name into a brand new book and allow him/her to be the first to check out the book. See this link for more details.

4th & 5th Grade Movie Night Tonight

4th & 5th graders are invited to enjoy Paddington 2 tonight from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.  Admission is $5.00 at the door.  Snacks and water will be provided.  This is a student event so moms and dads can take advantage of a few hours to perhaps get some tasks done around the house or at the grocery store.  PTO volunteers will be supervising the event.  Please come into the building when dropping off and picking up your child.

VALENTINE'S DAY TREAT BAGS

If you choose to include an item with your child's Valentines, please note that only non-food items are permissible. Candy, snacks, or any sort of food item will be sent back home with your child on Valentine's day if sent to school. Non-food items are permitted, and there are many pre-packaged Valentines that can be purchased that include a trinket (i.e., pencil, erasers, bookmark, etc.). If you have any questions about what can be included in Valentine's, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

For Parents: Sexual Assault and Abuse Awareness/Prevention Curriculum Preview Opportunity

An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault.

Parents who would like to preview the information he will present to KCSD96 elementary students may attend a program with Mr. Pacini at 5:30 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 7, in the Mat Room at Ivy Hall School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.

The age-appropriate presentation to Prairie students will be during the school day on Friday, Feb. 15th.

If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request - or your questions - to me at [email protected]
