Safety Reminders for Review with Families

Because our students’ safety is our top priority, we share the following information with District 96 families to reinforce the importance of diligence and of communicating concerns to the authorities.

District administrators were advised that a student was approached by a black sedan, driven by someone the student did not know, and asked to get into the car. The student did not comply and immediately informed a parent. Law enforcement is following up on and investigating the report.

Incidents such as this are a reminder of the need to review with children of all ages the importance of being aware while walking to/from or waiting at the bus stop and while walking to/from school.

Please emphasize that your children should not enter the vehicle of someone they do not know. Also, they should report to a trusted adult any attempt by a stranger to engage them in conversation or offer them candy or other enticements.

Likewise, children and adults being vigilant in their neighborhoods and reporting activity that seems unusual or out of place helps keep families in our community safe. “If you see something, say something.”

These are safety reminders that all of us benefit from reviewing as families.

–Julie Schmidt, District 96 Superintendent of Schools

Halloween Festivities

A big thank you goes out to our PTO parents for helping to make our Halloween parties a great success again this year.  The staff and students truly appreciate your time and energy to make this event so fun!

Family Reading Night

Family Reading Night is Thursday, November 15th from 6:30-7:45. Families will be able to enjoy quality time reading with your child! The Indian Trails librarian will also be at school to share information about their programs. In addition, we will have teachers reading aloud, with fun activities to go along with each book! Our theme is Reading Takes You Everywhere.  We are asking families to arrive on time or even early if you want to purchase books from the book fair.

Please keep in mind that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  There will be two sessions. Your family will decide which stations to attend. Once a choice is made, we ask that you remain with your child inside the classroom for the entire session. We look forward to seeing you there for this community event to celebrate READING!   ~Mrs. Spivack

Cell Phone Use In School Zones

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, guardians, and older siblings, please refrain from cell phone us in the school zones. This includes parent pick up, streets surrounding the school, and the parking lot. The consequences of distracted driving around a school are unfathomable. Please be thoughtful.
