After School Opportunities

After-school opportunities for Prairie elementary students are included in our school's VIRTUAL BACKPACK and on our CLUBS/SPORTS webpage. Students currently have an opportunity to learn to speak Spanish through a Fun Fluency Spanish Immersion class. Other after-school club opportunities will be coming soon. Continue to watch my Principal's Message for more after-school opportunities.

Sign Language Club

Have you ever wanted to talk to someone without saying a word? Well you can, we have a Sign Language Club at Prairie School! Registration is open for students in 3rd through 5th grades. Sign Language Club meets weekly on Friday mornings at 7:45 am. when students will learn American Sign Language (ASL).  Students are introduced to ASL including the alphabet, vocabulary (family members, colors, numbers, etc.), basic sentence structure, negatives, questions, and directional verbs. Elements of Deaf Culture are woven throughout each lesson.  Students will learn to sign simple sentences and convey meaning from basic everyday conversation. There is a limit of 20 students. Please see Prairie's Clubs page for more information and to sign up!

Photography Club

1-2-3 Smile! Photography club is open to 4th and 5th graders. We will be learning about taking different types of photos, editing pictures, helping to capture school events, and collecting pictures for the yearbook. We will take the first 30 kids who sign up. The club will be every Friday from 7:30-8:15. The club will start on September 21st and run until May 10th. Click HERE for the link. Please contact Mr. Morris ([email protected]) or Ms. Abramowicz ([email protected]) with questions.

Library News

During each class's weekly Learning Center time, students hear books talks and listen to passages from the various titles in our library.  This year, students can now check out up to TEN books.  We're excited about this change and hope you are too.  Please encourage your child to read a minimum of 20 words per day at home.

why read 20 minutes at home?
