Dear Parents,
This will be my last Principal's Message for the 2016–17 school year and it has been a wonderful year at that. The teachers and staff of Prairie School have loved watching your kids grow academically and socially this school year and are proud to have been a part of their school journey. It's amazing how quickly our kids grow up!
We thank you for your continued support. We could not do the important work we do in our classrooms without you–our dedicated Prairie parents. The trust you put in us to guide and grow your children is truly appreciated.
I would like to thank our outstanding faculty and support staff. Prairie teachers and instructional aides work tirelessly to develop engaging, differentiated lessons that bring your child's learning to the next level. I am honored to work with this dedicated group of professionals every day.
As our 5th graders move on to Twin Groves, we wish them the best of luck. This class of students is kind and caring and I know this talented group of young students will go on to do great things in their near and distant future.
Lastly, have a wonderful summer. Childhood goes by so very quickly, as we know, so take the relaxing days of summer to make some wonderful family memories.
Kindly,
Dr. Christine Pfaff

5TH-GRADE PARTY
A big thank you to our PTO 5th-Grade Party Committee for planning a wonderful afternoon of fun, games, and music for our 5th-grade students. The students really enjoyed themselves on Thursday afternoon. Students submit ideas for a 5th-grade class gift and then vote for the item they feel would be beneficial for the school. This year’s 5th-grade class voted for soccer goals, which will be added to our recess equipment next school year.
LOST AND FOUND
One last request to encourage your child to look through the lost and found for anything they may be missing. Students are given time during the lunch periods to take a look. Anything left at the end of the school year will be donated to charity.
FLAG POLE ASSEMBLY - Tuesday, June 6th - 1:45pm
Don’t miss out on our end-of-year Flagpole Assembly, one of Prairie’s treasured annual events. Students, staff, and families will gather around the flagpole at 1:45 pm to wish each other a fond farewell as we head off to our summer adventures. 5th graders will enjoy their “walk of fame," as they graduate to Twin Groves Middle School. Miss McShane will lead us in the Prairie School Song. Dismissal will be at 2:00pm. As a reminder, please do not park on Brandywyn Lane in the parent pick-up line to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion.
PTO NEWS
The Prairie PTO would like to thank everyone who has signed up to chair PTO Committees for the 2017 - 2018 school year! We are still seeking to fill the following Executive Board Member positions: Co-President, Corresponding Secretary, and Member-at-Large. We still have important Committee Chairperson positions to fill, as well. The following Committees need your help: Dessert Day, Monster Bash, Movie Night and Pizza Bingo. If we don’t fill the open positions, many of the fun activities the PTO runs throughout the year to enhance your child's experience will no longer be offered. Please visit prairiepto.membershiptookit.com for information on all opportunities available or email Karen Abrams. Talk with friends, sign up together! We truly appreciate your time and commitment and the children appreciate the sense of community you're helping build within our school. Please read this week's PTO BLOG for more Prairie news.
MEDICATION PICK-UP
Parents/Guardians are responsible for picking up any medication at the end of the school year. Please remember that no medications will be sent home with students. This includes all prescription and nonprescription medication. Any medication not picked up by the last day of school, will be destroyed in accordance with District 96 policy.
As a reminder, new MEDICATION AUTHORIZATION FORMS will need to be completed by the child’s physician each school year. Forms can be found on the District 96 website under “Student Health Information”. If you have any questions, please contact the Prairie’s Nurse, Ms. Strom. Thank you.
