Mrs. Cumpata's Pirate Post - 11.22.24

Good Afternoon Kildeer Families,

I also want to express my gratitude to all the families who joined us for Family Reading Night. It’s always a joy to see our students and their families come together after school hours to celebrate the love of reading. Events like these highlight the strength of our school community, and I am so grateful for your participation and support.

Next week is Thanksgiving, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all our families for their incredible partnership in helping our students thrive. Your collaboration and support make all the difference, and I’m so grateful for this amazing school community.  Please know that there will not be a Principal’s message next week. The next blog will be posted on Friday, 12/6/24.

Wishing everyone a joyful and restful Thanksgiving!

Until our next adventure.

Mrs. Karen Cumpata

REPEAT *Important Upcoming Dates*

  • November 27 - NO SCHOOL District Holiday

  • November 28 - NO SCHOOL District Holiday

  • November 29 - NO SCHOOL District Holiday

  • December 4 and 5 - MAP Testing

NEW *Boots, Snow Pants, and Gloves… Oh My!*

As you’re all aware, winter is upon us. And with it, comes the possibility of winter weather in the months ahead. In this evening’s edition of E-News from the District, you will be reading about KCSD96’s Inclement Weather Procedures. It’s important that families read this information and discuss your family’s plan in the case of inclement weather. This information also includes how the district will communicate school closures, delayed starts, and planned early dismissals with our families.

Additionally, I want to take a moment to discuss our Kildeer protocols when it comes to winter weather safety. For students to play in the snow, they must have snow pants, boots, gloves, and a jacket.  This applies to both the field and the playground area. This ensures that their clothes, hands, and feet are dry for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon.  Students who do not have snow pants and boots can still play on the blacktop area.

NEW *Medication Procedures and Handbook Policy*

As cold and flu season is upon us - reminder from our student handbook: "For the safety of all, medication must be brought to school by the parent or another responsible adult. The medication must be in its correct prescription container, showing the child’s name, the name of the drug, the dosage to be given, and the time of administration. Medication containers must be stored in the health office and students may consume medicine only in the health office." This includes acetaminophen, cough drops, or any other nonprescription, over-the-counter medication.

New to KCSD96: *Family Coffee and Conversation*

KCSD96 is excited to host another "New to KCSD96: Family Coffee and Conversation"! This is an opportunity for parents and guardians of newly registered students to ask questions and share information about their transition in a casual and fun way. This will be communicated in Friday's E-News, but we would love it if you helped us spread the word!

This year’s Coffee starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3rd, at Ivy Hall Elementary School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove in the Educational Development Center (EDC).

It is an informal opportunity for these new parents and guardians to ask questions and share their thoughts — with other parents and staff — about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can learn from the experiences of others.

New parents/guardians who missed the New Family Tours in August are encouraged to attend this conversation. Those who did attend the tours are welcome to join this conversation to share how they are adjusting to the District 96 culture.

Coffee and other refreshments will be served.

For planning purposes, RSVP at https://forms.gle/BhyqUTF2xFitcBah8.

This is an event only for parents and guardians.
