Kildeer Principal's Message- September 17th

band rehearsal

Dear Kildeer Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are winding down the last official days of summer. We sure have lucked out in the weather department. Students have enjoyed playing outside at recess and participating in P.E. outdoors. My hope is that we can keep the nice weather just a little bit longer! I want to give a shout-out to Mr. Craw and our band students for the outside performances lately.

As always, it’s been a gift to have our students back in the hallways. I am continually impressed as I walk through the classrooms to see learning in action. Students are working hard not only on academics, yet also on building relationships with each other and focusing on social-emotional learning. In just a few short weeks our staff will have the pleasure and opportunity to update you at conferences! We can’t wait!

NEW *Picture Day*

Picture day for Kildeer students will take place on Friday, September 24 during his or her P.E. class. All students were given a paper copy of directions for how to order pictures. This will be online only. Click HERE to see directions.

NEW *Thought Exchange Partnership*

The District 96 Thought Exchange Partnership (TEP) offers parents opportunities to give feedback and receive information about District instruction, programs, and initiatives. Understanding parent perceptions is helpful for planning and communicating. Contact District 96 Community Parent Liaison Lubna Andrabi, 847.459.4260, ext. 8136, with questions. In particular, the District invites parents who have students enrolled at Willow Grove Early Learning Center to consider joining the Thought Exchange Partnership. The first meeting is scheduled for October 21, 2021 from 7:00-8:30 via Zoom.

NEW *ERIN’S LAW*

An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault. For more information about this presentation please go to www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2

The presentation to Kildeer students will be during the school day on Wednesday, September 29.

If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request - or your questions - to me at [email protected]

NEW *Long Grove Fire Protection District Open House*

Please note that the Long Grove Fire Protection District Open House scheduled for Saturday (Sept. 18) has been canceled due to concerns about community health.  Please continue to check Virtual Backpacks for your school and the District for other events and information of interest to you and your family.

NEW *Fall Parent/Educator Conferences*

The conference dates are Thursday, October 7th from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Friday, October 8th from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

We will be using Meet the Teacher as an electronic sign-up for conferences. A School Messenger email will be sent to families on Monday, September 20th at 6:00 PM with a link to sign up for conferences.

Conferences will be held over zoom unless parents request an in-person conference using the instructions below. A document with all the staff zoom links will be sent out on Wednesday, October 6th at 2PM.

REQUESTING AN IN-PERSON CONFERENCE

After selecting the teachers you wish to meet with and choosing a time for each conference, Meet the Teacher will prompt you to save the appointment and ask if you want to add a message for the teacher. If you want to have an in-person conference with the teachers, you must notify the teachers via this messaging feature (see picture below).

Elementary parents will have the option to sign up with the classroom teacher as well as specials teachers and any related service providers their children see.

NEW *Student Council Information*

The Student Council is composed of fifth-grade students. Members are chosen through classroom elections to represent and communicate ideas to all the students here at Kildeer School. The students will learn the responsibilities of leadership by electing a person who will best represent them and who displays the greatest leadership qualities.

As a student council representative, you are considered a junior ambassador of Kildeer School.  Student Council will allow you a chance to develop and practice leadership roles and offer an opportunity to be involved at a school-wide level.  It is an honor that comes with hard work, commitment, and dedication to this opportunity. Active participation and contribution to each and every project is required.  This is a group that needs to work together as well as independently with the guidance of Mrs. Norman, Student Council coordinator.  We need to be a group that, together, can come up with creative ideas and act as leaders for the entire school population.  We are the role models for all the students at Kildeer School, and expected behavior is adhering to our Cougar 5. These behaviors are essential in the classroom, hallways, buses, lunch, recess, and special events.

You will be involved in helping run different community and school fundraisers, assisting P.T.O., helping positivity throughout our school and classrooms, and special school events.

You will also have a classroom where you will be responsible for communicating various information about events and projects that the Student Council may be doing for the school.

Leaving your classrooms to communicate this information must always be with the permission of your classroom teacher plus the teacher whose class you are going to visit.

We cover much information and work on projects at each meeting and your presence is necessary. We will meet once a week on Wednesday mornings promptly at 7:15 a.m. until the start of the school day. Please enter through the back of the building by the bus drop-off.  If you are late (try not to be) enter through the school office after 7:30 a.m.

All meetings will be held in the Art Room (room 008) starting October 6, 2021.

Students who are interested in running for student council will need to:

*Submit applications and posters to Mrs. Norman no later than Thursday, September 23, 2021. Earlier would be great.

Click HERE to read more and view the application process.

Next week is one of my favorite of the year.....the return of the fall book fair and the ice cream social (not to mention we have picture day on Friday as well as dessert day). Our students are so fortunate to have all of these opportunities. Thank you to our incredible PTO for making these experiences possible.

We hope to see your family on Tuesday evening to pick out some new books and enjoy some ice cream! If you know you are coming, PRETTY PLEASE pre-order on membership toolkit. This will 1) help our PTO plan for how much to order, and 2) help you to avoid lines!

This year ice cream is already prepared individually and we will have tables set up outside as well (weather dependent).

Have a beautiful weekend ahead!

Fondly,

Mrs. Vail Kieser
