Kildeer Principal's Message- January 24th

sunrise

Dear Kildeer Families,

One of my favorite things in the world is a morning drive to school with a gorgeous sunrise. Why? It gives me a few minutes to pause and reflect. I immediately think of the beauty in the world and all of the things that I'm grateful for. This sunrise is how I started the week and it made me reflect on my deep appreciation for our staff, students, and parents.

If you were a fly on the wall at Kildeer this week, you would have seen our staff engaged in highly collaborative conversations regarding student data. We made it a point to check-in on student growth and be intentional about the next steps for students. I told the staff that if I were a parent walking into these collaborative conversations, I would feel proud and appreciative of the growth mindset work to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students.

When you see a beautiful sunrise, what do you think of? What do you pause to reflect on?

*NEW INFORMATION*

Valentine's Day parties are just around the corner. If you choose to include an item with your child's Valentines, please note that only non-food items are permissible. Candy, snacks, or any sort of food item will be sent back home with your child on Valentine's day if sent to school. Non-food items are permitted, and there are many pre-packaged Valentines that can be purchased that include a trinket (i.e., pencil, erasers, bookmark, etc.). If you have any questions about what can be included in Valentine's, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

Note: If you are in charge of treats for the parties, please have them here no later than Thursday, February 13th at 11:00. This will allow ample time for our nurse to check them over! Thanks for your help with this! (If you are bringing in fresh fruit or have any questions about what you can/should bring, please reach out directly to our school nurse at [email protected]).

An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault. For more information about this presentation please go to www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2

The presentation for Kildeer students will be during the school day on Monday, February 3rd.

If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request - or your questions - to me at [email protected].
