Kildeer Principal's Message- March 8th

Kildeer Principal's Message- March 8th

Kildeer Families,

Can words even describe how amazing the collaborative conferences went? I want to celebrate our students for all of their hard work in preparing such thoughtful presentations. I want to thank our teachers for supporting, encouraging, and guiding our students to think critically about learning at Kildeer. I want to thank our parents for engaging in these conferences and asking such wonderful questions to your children. Overall, I want to thank this amazing community for the openness to this new change for conferences. I think we all went into these two days, not knowing what to expect. The outcome was beyond my expectations and I am absolutely thrilled that we took a chance to make this change.

Throughout the two days, I had the opportunity to make myself available and visit every classroom, even multiple times. I was stopped frequently in the hallways with words of gratitude, huge smiles, and an overwhelmingly positive feel to our students leading out their learning. While in the classrooms, I was able to see every single student take a leadership opportunity to share learning through the student perspective. Families were huddled around, exchanging high fives, hugs, and words of encouragement.

Did you feel pride in the air? I sure did because this is who we are as a Kildeer family. We come together to celebrate success. We encourage our children to reach their potential. We model kindness and gratitude, as we expect from our students and each other. I have countless examples of how proud I am to be the principal at Kildeer and these amazing days of celebration only reignited that pride!

Thank you for believing in this process and for believing in Kildeer. Our continued partnership will only further lead us in the best direction for our children.

Internet Safety Concern

By now you are likely aware of an Internet safety concern that has surfaced called Momo.

The “Momo Challenge/Game” begins with the recipient receiving a notification or watching a video which includes an image of a scary face/statue. The recipient is urged to perform potentially dangerous acts through intimidation techniques.

Please see a flyer below put out by the National Online Safety Institute regarding this challenge.

This is a good reminder that all of us need to remember the importance of internet safety. No filter is 100% effective. Today we are addressing Momo, however tomorrow it may be something else. Being responsible and diligent regarding best practices around the use of technology is a practice that all can benefit from. Common Sense Media is a great resource for any human being that uses the internet. There is a link to Common Sense Media also included below.

As a final thought, I want to share a quote that has resonated with me this week: "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." When I asked some parents this week what we want from our children, they shared the following: happiness, success, joy, kindness, empathy, etc. This is how we choose to spend our days at Kildeer.

We nurture our students and model for them what we expect from them. We encourage them to see mistakes as opportunities. We actively listen and approach situations with support and kindness. We are our students' biggest cheerleaders and our number one goal is for them to become the best version of themselves!

As not only a principal but a mother as well, we share the same goals. I hope for my daughter and son to someday have a rich experience with the community like our Kildeer family!

Have a great weekend ahead!

Warm Regards,

Principal Vail Kieser
