Kildeer Principal's Message- March 1st

4th grade musical

Kildeer Families,

Earlier this week we had the pleasure of the 4th-grade musical. Once again I was floored by the talent in the room! I equally love seeing the expressions on the parent faces as the students enter the small gym and perform. Way to go Kildeer students! Additionally, a HUGE thank you to Mr. Tatar for another successful show!

I also want to take a brief moment to celebrate our students. They have been working so incredibly hard to prepare for the upcoming student-led conferences. I spoke with a teacher earlier this week that said her students "cheer" anytime they get the opportunity to work on their presentations. This promises to be a very rewarding experience for our students for many reasons. For one, consider the undivided attention your child will get at that time to present their learning from their own perspective. Additionally, how wonderful to have them engage at a deeper level and take ownership of where they are now and goals for the future! I look forward to seeing you next week at conferences to continue these celebrations!

Winter MAP Results Available By Video
Parents of students in Grades 3 – 8 will have a new and different opportunity to view their student's Winter 2018 MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)–via a video specific to their child.

To make this possible, District 96 is participating in a pilot program with the company Spotlight. Today (Mar. 1) parents/guardians were sent an email for each of their students in Grades 3–8. Each email includes a unique video link to that student's MAP results, explained using easy-to-understand visual info.

Please note that this is not new information. These Winter MAP results were already shared through a Jan. 11 email from District 96 to parents, with instructions about accessing those scores online.

The MAP video link provided in today's email offers another opportunity to review and understand your student's scores.

Your feedback after viewing is particularly appreciated for this pilot program. Please complete the brief survey you'll find linked at the bottom of your student's video report.

Our Friday Institute Day was absolutely invigorating. We spent the day as a consortium learning about equity and inclusion. Educators were gathered together to engage in some very important topics and I felt so proud to have our staff involved in this very critical work.

When we think about our vision for students, we want to ensure that ALL of our students feel represented and welcome. We were able to see a very powerful video to hear from student voices, anywhere from elementary to high school.

Speaking of student voices, they are playing a big role in our March buddy classrooms. To continue our work of learning from and about each other, we will be further discussing our identities and stories. Please be on the lookout for more information!

I hope you enjoy the long weekend ahead with your family. I plan to do the same!

Warm Regards,

Principal Vail Kieser
