Another exciting week of learning has come to an end. The snowy weather added some extra fun to recess this week, and we can't wait to engage in the fun that comes with Kindness Week next week. Please see below for information on our Kind Coin Challenge and our fund Kindness Week Spirit Week!
NEW *Early Release on Tuesday, January 28th*
This is a friendly reminder that Tuesday, January 28th is an Early Release for students. Students will be dismissed at 2:00pm. Please plan to pick your child up at this time.
NEW *Kindness Week*
Next week is National Kindness Week and to celebrate, we are going to be recognizing all of the kind things we do at Country Meadows. Staff and students will be reflecting on the theme of kindness throuhgout the week, and to make it extra fun we will engage in a Spirit Week as well! Please see our Spirit Week schedule!
As part of Kindness Week, each class will be collecting coins for our Kind Coin Challenge! Grade levels will compete to collect the most coins! All proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Funds Australian bushfire efforts (charity chosen by our 5th grade leaders!).
NEW *Kids Heart Challenge*
On February 7th all students will take part in the Kids Heart Challenge during PE classes. Mr. Loessl and Ms. Almdale are excited to bring this fun event to Country Meadows! Please see this flier for more information about the Kids Heart Challenge!
NEW *Valentine's Day*
It's crazy to think that Valentine's Day is right around the corner! If you choose to include an item with your child's Valentines, please note that only non-food items are permissible.
Candy, snacks, or any sort of food item will be sent back home with your child on Valentine's day if sent to school. Non-food items are permitted, and there are many pre-packaged Valentines that can be purchased that include a trinket (i.e., pencil, erasers, bookmark, etc.). Card and party stores or stores with a birthday party aisle (i.e., Target) are a great place to look for these types of items.
Here are some ideas of non-food items if you choose to include something: Pencils, erasers, stickers, play-dough, bubble wands, plastic/rubber figurines, capsules that become figures when placed in water, mini deck of cards, spinning top, crazy straws.
NEW *PTO Update*
1st/2nd Grade Movie Night: The PTO is organizing a Movie Night for 1st and 2nd graders on January 31st from 5:30-7:15. This is a drop-off event. The cost is $5 per student, and students will receive pizza, ice cream, popcorn. Prizes will also be included. Permission slips ae due Monday, January 17th. The form can be found in the virtual backpack!

REPEATING *Erin's Law Presentation*
An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.
The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault. REPEATING *Important Action Item for Parents of Current 5th Graders*
Parents of ALL currently enrolled 5th graders whose students will attend in School District 96 in the 2020–2021 school year must prove their residency again by Feb. 14, 2020.
Country Meadows Administrative Assistant Cheryl Kelly will accept proof of residency and provide a required form for your signature.
Please note that the requirement to re-prove residency for a current 5th grader applies–even for families who have other students currently attending KCSD96 schools.

REPEATING *KCSD96 Offers a Dual Language Opportunity*
Parents are invited to consider the Dual Language Program for their incoming Willow Grove kindergartner. The program’s purpose is to give children the opportunity to develop a deep academic proficiency in two languages. Fifty percent of the academic day instruction is delivered in Spanish and 50 percent in English. Following their kindergarten year at Willow Grove, Dual Language participants continue at Country Meadows for Grades 2–5 and transition to Woodlawn for Grades 6–8.
To be included in the public lottery that will be used to select the 2020–21 Dual Language kindergarten class, an Interest Form (ENGLISH or SPANISH) is due to the Willow Grove Early Learning Center office by 3 p.m. on Mar. 18.

NUEVO *Semana de la Amabilidad*
La próxima semana es la Semana Nacional de La Amabilidad y para celebrar, estaremos identificando todas las cosas amables que hacemos en Country Meadows. ¡El personal y los estudiantes estarán incorporando el tema de la amabilidad a lo largo de la semana, y para hacerlo aún más divertido estaremos participando en la Semana de Orgullo Escolar! ¡Por favor vea el horario de la Semana de Orgullo Escolar!
¡Como parte de la Semana de la Amabilidad, cada clase estará recolectando monedas para nuestro Desafío de Monedas para la Amabilidad! ¡Los niveles de grado competirán para recolectar la mayor cantidad de monedas! Todas las ganancias irán a World Wildlife Funds Australian (¡una organización benéfica elegida por nuestros líderes de 5º grado!).
NUEVO *Día de San Valentín*
¡No puedo creer que ya casi llega el Día de San Valentín! Si usted desea incluir un artículo para que su hijo celebre el día de San Valentín, por favor tenga en cuenta que solo se permiten artículos no comestibles.
Los dulces, meriendas, o cualquier tipo de alimento será regresado a casa con su hijo el día de San Valentín. Se permiten artículos no comestibles, y hay muchos productos de San Valentín previamente empacados que puede incluir (por ejemplo., lápices, borradores, marcador de libros, etc.). Las tiendas donde venden productos/artículos para fiestas (por ejemplo., Target) son un buen lugar para buscar este tipo de artículos/productos.

NUEVO *Actualización de PTO*
Noche de Película 1er/2º Grado: El PTO está organizando una Noche de Película para los estudiantes de 1er y 2º grado el 31 de enero de 5:30 a 7:15. Este evento es únicamente para estudiantes. Cuesta $5 por estudiante, y los estudiantes recibirán pizza, helados, palomitas de maíz. También se incluirán premios. Las hojas de permiso deben ser entregadas para el lunes, 27 de enero. ¡Puede encontrar el formulario en virtual backpack!

Los padres de TODOS los estudiantes que están actualmente inscritos en 5º grado y que asistirán al Distrito Escolar 96 durante el año escolar 2020–2021 deben comprobar su domicilio nuevamente para el 14 de febrero, 2020.
La Asistente de Administración de Country Meadows Cheryl Kelly aceptará el comprobante de domicilio y le dará un formulario que requiere de su firma.
Por favor tome en cuenta que este requisito de volver a comprobar su domicilio para un estudiante que está actualmente en 5º grado aplica aún para las familias que tienen otros estudiantes que asisten a las escuelas del Distrito 96.

REITERACIÓN *KCSD96 Ofrece Una Oportunidad de Lenguaje Dual*
Invitamos a los padres a que consideren el Programa de Lenguaje Dual para los estudiantes que entrarán al kindergarten de Willow Grove. El propósito de este programa es darle la oportunidad a los niños para que desarrollen una capacidad académica profunda en dos idiomas. Cincuenta por ciento de la enseñanza académica se implementará en Español y 50 por ciento en Inglés. Después de kindergarten en Willow Grove, los participantes continuarán en en Programa de Lenguaje Dual en Country Meadows para los grados 2–5 y pasarán a Woodlawn para los grados 6–8.
