Country Meadows families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our student-led collaborative conferences! Students have been working hard to gather their artifacts and reflect on their learning experiences, and it was so fun to see them so excited to share with you these past few days. One teacher shared a specific example of her class celebrating their growth in writing after analyzing a piece from the fall and a current writing sample! I truly love seeing student own their growth and learning, and most importantly having the opportunity to share their strengths and goals with all of you! Thank you for participating, and please remember to provide feedback based on your experience (see below)!
NEW *Internet Safety Concern*
By now you are likely aware of an Internet safety concern that has surfaced call Momo.
The “Momo Challenge/Game” begins with the recipient receiving a notification or watching a video which includes an image of a scary face/statue. The recipient is urged to perform potentially dangerous acts through intimidation techniques.
There is a attached a flyer put out by the National Online Safety Institute regarding this challenge.
This is a good reminder that all of us need to remember the importance of internet safety. No filter is 100% effective. Today we are addressing Momo, however tomorrow it may be something else. Being responsible and diligent regarding best practices around the use of technology is a practice that all can benefit from. Common Sense Media is a great resource for any human being that uses the internet. There is a link to Common Sense Media also included below.

NEW *Kindness Challenge Update*
As you may remember, we had challeged students to earn as many PAWs as they could for being respectful, responsible, and peaceful during the month of February! Our goal was to fill a large bulletin board with all of the PAWS we earned as a school community! I am happy to report, we met our goal! The students have been so proud to see their PAWs on the board as they walk to specials! Way to go, students!

Parents of incoming kindergartners interested in learning more about the Dual Language program beginning in the 2019–2020 school year have two weeks left to sign up!

¡Fue tan maravilloso ver a tantos de ustedes en nuestras conferencias colaborativas que los estudiantes guiaron! NUEVO *Preocupación de Seguridad en el Internet*
Quizás usted ya esté informado de una preocupación de seguridad en el Internet llamado Momo.
El “Reto/Juego Momo” empieza con alguien que recibe una notificación o al ver un video que incluye una imagen de una cara/estatua aterradora. Al que recibe esto se le pide de urgencia que realice actos potencialmente peligrosos por medio de técnicas de intimidación.
Hay un folleto adjunto que fue publicado por el Instituto Nacional de Seguridad en Línea acerca de este reto.
Quiero recordarles que todos debemos saber la importancia de la seguridad en el internet. Ningún filtro es 100% efectivo. Hoy estamos atendiendo el asunto de Momo, sin embargo quizás mañana podrá ser otro asunto. Debemos ser responsables y diligentes cuando usamos la tecnología, eso será un gran beneficio para nosotros. Common Sense Media es un buen recurso para cualquier ser humano que usa el internet. Aquí voy a incluir un enlace al Common Sense Media.
