Valentine's Day
What, already?? Yep! I saw the Valentines on display at Target! I like to try to catch parents before they buy valentines (if you choose to do so). Even though it is not expected, if you choose to include an item with your child's valentine, please note for the safety of our students only non-food items are permissible. This practice is consistent for all classrooms in District 96 elementary schools including Willow Grove. Your child's teacher will send home any classroom specific information related to Valentine's Day.
KCSD96 Offers a Dual Language Opportunity
Parents are invited to consider the Dual Language Program for their incoming Willow Grove kindergartner. The program’s purpose is to give children the opportunity to develop a deep academic proficiency in two languages. Fifty percent of the academic day instruction is delivered in Spanish and 50 percent in English. Following their kindergarten year at Willow Grove, Dual Language participants continue at Country Meadows for Grades 2–5 and transition to Woodlawn for Grades 6–8.
To be included in the public lottery that will be used to select the 2020–21 Dual Language kindergarten class, an Interest Form (ENGLISH or SPANISH) is due to the Willow Grove Early Learning Center office by 3 p.m. on Mar. 18.
LEARN MORE about the KCSD96 Dual Language program and attend a Parent Education Evening on Feb. 12 or Mar. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Willow Grove Early Learning Center to hear a presentation from District faculty/administrators and ask questions.

What are examples of expected or unexpected behaviors at school or on the bus?
What is the Wheel of Choice? What is an example of a way to solve a problem with a friend? You may give examples of common problems and ask them how they may solve it from the Wheel of Choice.
What are the Zones of Regulation? How might you be feeling to be in the blue/green/yellow/red zone? What is one way you can help your body get from blue/yellow/red zone to the green zone?
What does “Size of the Problem” mean? If a friend and you both want the same toy, do you think that is a small, medium, or large problem? Give other examples and help them match their problem to the appropriate size. Talk about how your reactions match the size of the problem and reference the Zones of Regulation for how you may move from one zone to another.
Here is a visual of the tools we reviewed so you can also reference them while you discuss with your child. These are all wonderful tools to teach and practice at home, as well.
PARENTS OF CURRENT KINDERGARTNERS REQUIRED TO RE-PROVE RESIDENCY
Parents of ALL currently enrolled kindergartners whose students will attend in School District 96 in the 2020–2021 school year must prove their residency again.
When school resumes following Winter Break, administrative assistants at Willow Grove and KCSD96 elementary schools will accept proof of residency and provide a required form for your signature.
Please note that the requirement to re-prove residency for a current kindergartner and 5th grader applies–even for families who have other students currently attending KCSD96 schools.

Parents of incoming kindergartners will need to prove residency with required documents and District forms and to complete a brief online preregistration form. (Incoming kindergartners do not need to be present.)
Required documents:
• CURRENT monthly mortgage or lease statement or property tax bill AND
• CURRENT utility bill AND
• Student’s birth certificate, passport, or visa (photocopy not accepted) AND

Día de San Valentín
¿¿Qué, ya?? ¡Sip! ¡Vi los artículos de San Valentín en Target! Me gusta avisales a los padres antes de que compren cosas para San Valentín (si así lo desea). Aunque no es esperado, si quiere incluir un artículo para que su hijo celebre San Valentín, por favor tenga en cuenta que por seguridad de nuestros estudiantes solo se permiten artículos no comestibles. Esto se aplica en todos los salones de las escuelas primarias del Distrito 96 incluyendo Willow Grove. La maestra de su estudiante enviará información a casa relacionada al Día de San Valentín.
KCSD96 Ofrece una Oportunidad de Lenguaje Dual
Invitamos a los padres a que consideren el Programa de Lenguaje Dual para los estudiantes que entrarán al kindergarten de Willow Grove. El propósito de este programa es darle la oportunidad a los niños para que desarrollen una capacidad académica profunda en dos idiomas. Cincuenta por ciento de la enseñanza académica se implementará en Español y 50 por ciento en Inglés. Después de kindergarten en Willow Grove, los participantes continuarán en en Programa de Lenguaje Dual en Country Meadows para los grados 2–5 y pasarán a Woodlawn para los grados 6–8.

¿Qué es la Rueda de la Elección? ¿Cuál es un ejemplo de una manera de solucionar un problema con un amigo? Usted puede dar ejemplos de problemas comunes y preguntarles cómo lo solucionarían usando la Rueda de la Elección.
¿Cuáles son las Zonas de Regulación? ¿Cómo te puedes estar sintiendo en la zona azul/verde/amarilla/roja? ¿Cuál es una manera que puedes ayudar a tu cuerpo llegar de una zona azul/amarilla/roja a una zona verde?
¿Qué significa “Tamaño del Problema”? Si tú y tu amigo quieren el mismo juguete, crees que eso es un problema pequeño, mediano o grande? Da otros ejemplos y ayúdalos a que su problema corresponda con el tamaño apropiado. Hable sobre cómo sus reacciones corresponden con el tamaño del problema y refiérase a las Zonas de Regulación para que sepa cómo moverse de una zona a la otra.
Aquí puede ver las herramientas que repasamos para que usted también se pueda referir a ellas mientras habla con su hijo. Estas son maravillosas herramientas que se pueden utilizar en el hogar y en la escuela

MEDIDA IMPORTANTE PARA PADRES DE ESTUDIANTES QUE ESTÁN EN KINDERGARTEN
Los padres de TODOS los estudiantes que están actualmente inscritos en kindergarten y que asistirán al Distrito Escolar 96 durante el año escolar 2020–2021 deben comprobar su domicilio nuevamente para el 14 de febrero, 2020.
La Asistente de Administración de Willow Grove Karen Graham aceptará el comprobante de domicilio y le dará un formulario que requiere de su firma.
Por favor tome en cuenta que este requisito de volver a comprobar su domicilio para un estudiante que está actualmente en kindergarten aplica aún para las familias que tienen otros estudiantes que asisten a las escuelas del Distrito 96.

Pase el miércoles 15 de enero, 2020, de 5 PM a 7 PM O el jueves, 23 de enero, 2020 de 5 PM a 7 PM para la preinscripción para kindergarten 2020–2021 en

Los padres de los estudiantes entrantes de kindergarten necesitan comprobar su residencia con los documentos y formularios del Distrito y completar un breve formulario de preinscripción en línea. (los estudiantes de kindergarten entrantes no tienen que estar presentes.)
