Booster Band Festival Brings Guest Experts to KCSD96

On a Friday after school in February, Twin Groves Honor Band members and Woodlawn Symphonic Band members made the most of their opportunity to work with VanderCook College of Music Associate Director of Bands Stacey Dolan. Their guest delivered praise and constructive feedback with enthusiasm and energy, motivating band members to give their best musical effort as they implemented techniques she demonstrated.

In addition to receiving instruction as a band at the Band Festival, six guest specialists worked with students in small-group instrumental sectionals.

With their guest experts' guidance, band members received instruction in many aspects of interpreting and playing music. Fundamentals addressed proper posture and the way to hold a given instrument to create the best sound. Musical technique instruction considered dynamics, phrasing, tone quality, and more.

This unique opportunity for deeply focused learning guided by guest experts was funded by the District 96 Band & Orchestra Boosters and organized with the help of District 96 Band Directors Dan Nagle (Twin Groves) and Chad Craw (Woodlawn). Audiences will enjoy the benefits of this instruction at concerts to come this school year and in the future.

Membership ToolKit Sign-Up is Now Active!
Do you have a student participating in the band or orchestra programs this school year? If so, you will want to stay “in the know” and create an account in the Boosters Membership ToolKit! In our ToolKit you will have access to the order forms for the required concert polo shirts, forms to order items for Booster fundraisers and to register for events (such as treats for after-concert socials, Gift Cards, Booster membership/donations, and the “End of the Year” party) as well as forms to sign up to volunteer at Booster events. You will also be able to make purchases with your credit card! Offerings will be added throughout the year as we get closer to event dates.

Please note that most forms will now be located here, and will no longer be sent out by your band or orchestra director, so it is important that you set up an account to stay informed! Click on the button above to create an account and get started. (Note: If you already have a Membership ToolKit account with the PTO at your school, you can use the same e-mail and password to set up this account.)
