In District 96, students are eligible to participate in Orchestra beginning in 4th grade.

Orchestra teachers demonstrate the string instruments available for beginners during an in-school assembly. The orchestra teachers discuss the advantages of each instrument and future considerations. They also discuss what is involved with choosing an instrument, such as practice expectations and responsibilities with regard to lessons. A note is sent home to parents explaining the recruiting process and upcoming future activities.

Orchestra teachers meet with students who are interested and allow them try various instruments. A note is sent home to parents regarding the recommended instrument and date/time for upcoming orchestra registration.
