Kildeer PTO Blog, Jan. 17, 2020

WELCOME BACK

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. We want to thank everyone who donated toys to the Kildeer Toy Drive–it was a huge success! It's just so great to be part of such a generous and kind community, so THANK YOU!

The rest of the school year will be very busy and full of exciting events–Family Tubing Night at Wilmot, 5th-Graders' Night Out, 5th-Grade Variety Show, Family Picnic, and more. Be sure to read the blog and watch for posts on Facebook and Instagram for information on all these events.

BINGO BLAST, FEB. 21, 5:30–7:30 PM

There is an URGENT need for Parent Volunteers for Bingo Blast. We are looking for at least five volunteers to finish planning and facilitate Bingo Blast on Feb. 21, 2020. Below is a list of individual responsibilities we need to fill in order to host the event. Each volunteer must be able to be present on Feb. 21. The event runs from 5:30–7:30 p.m.

The Executive Board has streamlined the event and is looking forward to helping volunteers! We would hate to see our winter community get-together removed from the calendar of events this year; however, if we do not have enough volunteers by Tues., Jan. 21, the event will be canceled.

Bingo Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Pizza Coordinator–work with Papa John's to pre-order pizza prior to the event
  • Ice Cream Coordinator–work with Culver's to pre-order ice cream prior to the event
  • Volunteer Coordinator–Schedule volunteers (from a list we provide) throughout the evening and coordinate high school volunteers
  • Check-In Table Volunteer–Sell tickets and pass out pre-orders
  • Raffle Basket Coordinator–Organize raffle baskets for students using an Amazon Wish List

Interested in helping? Have any questions? Please contact Kim Connolly.

BINGO BLAST DETAILS

Our annual Bingo Blast event is scheduled for Fri., Feb. 21, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Due to our lack of volunteers to coordinate this iconic school event, we have decided to make some changes. We are completely eliminating the silent auction gift basket table, as we understand it is quite a burden to assemble and solicit donations for these elaborate baskets. We will still have the "Teacher Experience" items, along with a few other more popular events. We also will still have the raffle baskets for students.

Did you know Bingo Blast is our biggest fundraiser? Bingo Blast pays for our Cultural Arts assemblies, which cost over $4000 each year, and it pays for author visits, which can run over $1000 a year. It also pays for the roller skates Kildeer students use in gym class and our Cougar Press books. Not only do we use money raised from Bingo Blast on some fantastic events for our children, the kids LOVE it! However, in order to host this event, we are looking for volunteers to help with various tasks of the event. If you are interested (or willing) to help with any of these specific tasks mentioned above, please contact Kim Connolly. Thank you!

FAMILY WILMOT TUBE NIGHT FUNDRAISER – Thurs., Feb. 27, 4–9 p.m.

We're doing it again this year... Kildeer's Family Tubing Night Fundraiser is planned at Wilmot Mountain! Come out and join us for an evening filled with laughs and excitement! Who doesn't love riding down a snow-covered hill in a tube?! Each ticket costs $22 and that provides unlimited tubing from 4 – 9 p.m. Kildeer will receive $5 back on every ticket purchased. The time frame is flexible, meaning you can come for any amount of time!

NEW THIS YEAR: We've made it easier to participate in this event. YOU CAN PAY AT THE DOOR and NO PREREGISTRATION is necessary for this event. You just need to show this VOUCHER or mention the Kildeer School fundraiser! You can DOWNLOAD AND COMPLETE THE LIABILITY WAIVER required or complete it at Wilmot.

This is NOT a drop-off event. Parent supervision is required.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Andrea Weisner.

WINTER BOX TOPS COLLECTION IS ONGOING!

Help the PTO earn funds to purchase supplies for our schools by sending in your Box Tops! Box Tops can be found on many household products, including General Mills, Ziploc, Annie's, and more! Classrooms have collection envelopes and are currently accepting physical Box Tops; however, there is an easier way to collect Box Tops.

NEW THIS YEAR: Download the Box Tops for Education app and scan your receipts to submit Box Tops electronically!

Our Winter Collection began Mon., Jan. 13, and runs through Feb. 14, so please continue to send your Box Tops or scan your receipts! Thanks!
Questions? Contact Eugenia Hahn, Nikki Ziomek, or Amy Feygin.

THE NEXT SPECIAL LUNCH IS FRI., FEB. 7

We're bringing in Chipotle for our Special Lunch on Fri., Feb. 7. Your child had the choice of Cheese Quesadillas or a Build-Your-Own Taco: Chicken or Steak. This is just a friendly reminder for those who have ordered.

WANTED: NOMINATING COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The Kildeer PTO is looking for Nominating Committee members. The Nominating Committee forms a slate of candidates for the open positions on the Kildeer PTO Executive Board of Officers and fills open Kildeer PTO Committee positions for the 2020–21 school year. The committee meets 2–3 times in February and March and will present their final recommendations to the Executive Board in April. Please contact Rebecca Bacci with any questions or if you are interested in this opportunity.

ATTENTION 5TH-GRADE PARENTS

The Yearbook Committee is creating a special tribute to our 5th graders in the yearbook, but we need your help!!! Please submit a headshot of your child when he/she was 6–12 months old. The baby pictures will all be displayed in the yearbook and matched with your child's future dreams/favorite memories. Digital photos are preferred and can be emailed to [email protected]

5TH-GRADE PARENTS, SAVE THE DATE

What? 5th-Grade Night Out
When? Wed., Mar. 4
Where? X-Factor Trampoline Park

The 5th-Grade Night Out Committee is working hard planning the event. Due to the number of participants–5th-grade girls and boys from both Country Meadows and Kildeer are included–the committee has chosen to host this event offsite. At XFactor, there will be stations of fun activities with preassigned groups, mixing students from both schools so our 5th graders will have an opportunity to meet their new future 6th-grade classmates. Details are currently in the works, but be sure to mark the date and location in your calendars. This is an event your 5th grader will not want to miss!! Watch for more information coming soon.
