Mrs. Cumpata's Pirate Post - 5.9.25

Mrs. Cumpata's Pirate Post - 5.9.25

Good Afternoon Kildeer Families,

Thank you to the incredible community for the love, support, and food this week to celebrate our staff.  Our PTO and volunteers ARRR amazing!  It is truly hard to believe we are only 3 weeks away from summer break.

During the month of May, each classroom is a pirate crew on a journey to uncover hidden treasures by showing the Cougar 5. Along the way, each class stops at key points marked on a treasure map to celebrate their positive behavior. Our students are showing success and enjoying all the hidden treasures.

Finally, I want to congratulate Mrs. Wright for being District 96 Support Staff Member of the Year.  She was recognized this week at the Lake County Educator of the Year Ceremony.  Her hard work and dedication to the staff, students, and Kildeer community does not go unnoticed. We are so lucky to her at Kildeer.

Until our next adventure.

Mrs. Karen Cumpata

NEW *Student Summer Tech*

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to take a moment to touch base about student technology and expectations as we wrap up our time with students. Similar to this time last year, KCSD96 will collect all devices before break and return them when students come back in the fall. Please note, students will not be required to back-up any of their files as their data will still be in place when they get their iPads back in the fall.

Teachers will be collecting the following items:

For Grades K, 1, and 8:

  • iPad

  • Case

  • Logitech Crayon

  • Block Charger + USB-C cable

    • Optional: USB-C audio adapters

For Grades 2-7

  • iPad

  • Case

  • Logitech Crayon

    • Optional: USB-C audio adapters

This process allows us to track inventory, so everything is ready for the 2025-26 school year. Additionally, it gives us the opportunity to set clear expectations with students about responsible device use when they receive them in the fall. It also helps us protect our resources by reducing the chances of devices being lost, stolen, or damaged. Finally, by keeping devices at school, we support healthier summer habits focused on outdoor play, social-emotional growth, family time, and rest.

Please note, students who attend ESY will have access to their devices while they are here learning. Additionally, if a student uses their device as a communication tool, the district will not be collecting their device over the summer. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Cumpata.

NEW *MAP Testing*

As we wrap up MAP make-up testing, we expect to send reports home to families next week (mid-week). If you have any questions, please reach out.

NEW *Band Information for 4th Grade Families*

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

Next year as a 5th grader, your child will have the opportunity to participate in the school’s Beginning Band. Band is a lot of fun! And it provides social interaction while strengthening general skills. Making music with others and developing a critical ear can be a meaningful and enjoyable experience for your child for many years.

Here’s what 4th graders and their families will experience before the end of this school year and into next year:

  1. School Assembly: Students have already learned a little about the band instruments and how band works at the band assembly.

  2. Instrument Petting Zoo: Today, students had the opportunity to casually explore and handle the band instruments during the school day. It was a fun experience, but significantly more time will be needed to determine whether an instrument is the right fit before making a final decision on which one to play.

  3. Sign up for band this spring, choose the instrument next fall: New this year! Students will sign up for band first, then choose and obtain an instrument after band begins in the fall. During the first few band lessons the teacher will guide students towards an instrument that fits well, that they enjoy playing, and that benefits the entire band.

  4. *****Parent Meeting***** Learn more at the “Beginning Band Parent Meeting” on Monday, May 19th at 6:00 pm in the Woodlawn band room.

  5. Band Registration: Online band registration is open until August 20. Parents are encouraged to sign up before summer break. Registration will be open until August 20.

  6. Fall Instrument Selection: Band lessons begin in August without instruments. During the first few lessons, students will play-test all band instruments before making a final decision.

  7. Obtain the instrument: After the instrument choice is made, parents will need to  obtain the instrument, book and supplies on their own. Guidance about how to do that will be provided.

Please visit the Beginning Band Website at tinyurl.com/bandcmk for more details and to sign up!

I am looking forward to working with all band students and families in the next few months! Feel free to email any questions or bring them to the parent meeting.

Sincerely,

Chad Craw

More than 300 parents and guardians attended the “Transition to Middle School” presentation at Twin Groves Middle School. Guests heard from Twin Groves Middle School Principal Mrs. Barnes and Assistant Principal Mrs. Kasie Dolan, as well as Woodlawn Middle School Principal Mr. Grana and Assistant Principal Greg Bays. There was also a panel of current sixth-graders, who answered questions about what it's like to be a middle schooler.

If you were unable to make the event, please view the “Transition to Middle School 2025” presentation here.

REPEAT *Dental Exams*

Dear Parents/Guardians of Current KCSD96 Kindergarteners, 2nd, and 6th Grade Students ONLY:

Please note that your child’s completed dental examination has an upcoming due date, per Illinois school law. The deadline for the dental examination is due no later than May 15 of the current school year. Proof of this required dental examination must have been completed within eighteen months prior to the May 15 deadline.

If you haven’t already done so, please make an appointment with your child’s dentist for a dental examination, have him and/or her complete the required form and return it to your child’s school nurse.

In the event that you are unable to fulfill this requirement, the state of Illinois does permit a waiver of the examination - Click here

REPEAT *Fire Drill*

On May 14, Kildeer will be conducting a Fire Drill. Students will be evacuating the building during the drill. If the weather does not cooperate, we will reschedule the drill and communicate the rescheduled drill date.

REPEAT *Library End-of-Year Procedures*

Our final day for library check out is T, 5/13. All library materials are due back on W, 5/14.

Please help our library by looking under beds, in closets, cars, backpacks, etc. for our beloved library books. We understand that sometimes books have already been returned and we will partner with you to check our shelves to see if they can be found. Your child may come home with a paper list of missing book titles to help make the search easier.

If you have any questions, please email Ms. Jones at [email protected].
