Mrs. Cumpata's Weekly Message - 1.20.23

Good Afternoon Kildeer Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are quickly approaching the end of January.  While it is evident that student learning, engagement, and safety continue to be our main priorities, we are still making sure to have fun along the way. Students enjoyed playing different games during their grade level PAWSitive PAW Party on Wednesday.  Student Council, PTO and Kildeer staff members are planning out next PAWSitive celebration, multicultural assembly and spirit day. We are excited to continue fostering positive energy at Kildeer Elementary School.   Please remember that Tuesday is an Early Release for students.

EnJOY your weekend!

Mrs. Karen Cumpata

*Upcoming Dates*

Tuesday, January 24 - Early Release Day

NEW *Valentine's Day*

I like to try to catch parents before they buy valentines, should you choose to do so.  If you choose to include an item with your child's valentines, please note for the safety of our students only non-food items are permissible. This practice is consistent for all classrooms in District 96 elementary schools including Willow Grove. Your child's teacher will send home any classroom specific information related to Valentine's Day.  Willow Grove, Country Meadows, Ivy Hall, Kildeer and Prairie will all be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Monday, February 13 since February 14 is an Early Release Day.

REPEAT *Recess*

For students to play in the snow, they must have snow pants, boots, gloves and jacket.  This applies to both the field and the playground area. This ensures that their clothes, hands and feet are dry for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon.  Students who do not have snow pants and boots can still play on the blacktop area.

REPEAT *Assessments for Middle School Language Arts, Math*

Each spring, students in 5th grade take several assessments that determine the placement in middle school Language Arts and Math classes. For more details concerning the placement process ~ including the number and type of assessments as well as dates ~ please CLICK HERE (https://www.kcsd96.org/curriculum/6th-grade-placement-info1) to access the information on our website.

REPEAT *ACCESS Testing*

The State of Illinois requires identified English Learner (EL) students to annually participate in the ACCESS testing to determine current English language proficiency in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Our ACCESS testing window will occur from 1/17-2/22. Each school’s testing schedule is unique and will only impact students who take the ACCESS test. Students taking ACCESS do not need to prepare anything ahead of time.
