Kildeer Principal's Message- February 7th

Pablo Cartaya

Dear Kildeer Families,

This week was packed with a lot of fun. What I'd really like to highlight was the success of our author visit from Pablo Cartaya. He presented to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders with a wonderful message about family, community, and culture. I wish you could have experienced all the giggles and students being absolutely glued to his stories. In the end, he left us with an important concept: My voice. My story. I made the time to enjoy a whole presentation and was proud of our students. They had great questions and I saw a lot of students engaged in his storytelling. If you haven't had an opportunity, be sure to check out his books. It sounds like one of them is coming out as a movie!

This is the time of year we start to see some behaviors pop. I know that we are all working hard together to best support our students to make the best of choices. As a school, we've committed to three things that we hope all of the adults can reinforce in the building:

1) Walking safely in the hallways.

2) Keeping our bathrooms clean.

3) Greeting each other across settings (hallways, cafeteria, office, etc.)

If you get a chance, ask your child how they think they do with each of these above and make a plan for how to make it even better at school!

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has issued this information and guidance–including Frequently Asked Questions regarding the coronavirus–for families whose students attend Illinois Kdg–Grade 12 schools.

The info includes this related link to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, which is frequently updated.

The IDPH continues to advise that the best way to prevent infection by this virus is similar to the precautions recommended to avoid the seasonal flu, including frequent hand washing.

Valentine's Day parties are just around the corner. If you choose to include an item with your child's Valentines, please note that only non-food items are permissible. Candy, snacks, or any sort of food item will be sent back home with your child on Valentine's day if sent to school. Non-food items are permitted, and there are many pre-packaged Valentines that can be purchased that include a trinket (i.e., pencil, erasers, bookmark, etc.). If you have any questions about what can be included in Valentine's, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

Note: If you are in charge of treats for the parties, please have them here no later than Thursday, February 13th at 11:00. This will allow ample time for our nurse to check them over! Thanks for your help with this! (If you are bringing in fresh fruit or have any questions about what you can/should bring, please reach out directly to our school nurse at [email protected]).

Additionally, we are so very fortunate to our PTO volunteers that made the show possible. Thank you for your time and commitment to this Kildeer tradition!

Just to keep everyone in the loop, last night I officially registered my daughter for Kindergarten. It was surreal being there and being on the other side. I felt excited for the future and scared all at once. How has my little girl grown up so fast? If you have any ideas on how to slow time down, I'm all ears. Have a great weekend ahead!

Fondly,

Mrs. Vail Kieser
