Kildeer Principal's Message-August 23rd

Kildeer Principal's Message-August 23rd

Dear Kildeer Families,

What a GREAT evening we had at curriculum night. Thank you so much for taking the time to prioritize the partnership with our school. Our staff was eager to share about the year ahead for your children and we always value seeing you here.

The message of my presentation was all about using our voice in a way to heal, inspire, and transform. Not only our words but our actions and example, say a lot!

The other day someone said, "Get ready for the best school year yet!". I couldn't agree more!

Bus Routes

Thank you to all of the families that continue to alert us to the late bus arrivals or missed stops in the mornings. Please know we are in constant communication with the bus company and our district to try to problem-solve the situations. We share the same goal having your child to Kildeer and home on time. Also, please know we are working to improve our communication when bus routes are late after school. I want to give a shout-out to all of our families that this has impacted. We are hoping for a smoother week ahead! Thanks again for understanding. Please don't hesitate to continue to reach out!

MAP SCORES: We made the decision this year to turn off the ability for students to see their RIT score immediately upon submitting their test.  In past years, this feature has been turned on. Instead, students will receive their scores through an individual discussion with their teacher at some point following the MAP testing window.  In addition, MAP score reports will be emailed to parents on Friday, September 6th beginning at 3pm.

The main reasons for this decision are as follows:

  • We believe it is best for students that their results are shared personally.  Teachers can help put student results into context and discuss areas for further growth and areas of strength.  A RIT score in isolation does not communicate this level of detail and simply becomes a number to compare themselves to others.
  • Some of our students have demonstrated a high level of anxiety with the level of sharing that occurs when the RIT scores are shown upon test submission.  This change will allow students to simply take the assessment and not be concerned about the immediacy of the feedback.

Beginning the week of August 26th, After School Sports will be offered to all students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.  Some of the activities included are general games, basketball and volleyball.  The 3rd Graders will meet on Mondays, 4th Graders on Wednesdays and 5th Graders on Thursdays.  There will be 20 sessions for each grade level and all sessions run from 3:00 - 4:00.  Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up on time.  (If your child is continually picked up late it may result in your child no longer being able to stay for the program.  We highly recommend carpooling with other families.)  Children will be picked up in front of the building, and we strongly urge families to carpool.  There is a calendar posted  below with the scheduled dates for those who sign up to participate in the After School Sports Program.  Students do not have to attend every session.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.  In order for your child to participate, we will need the District 96 Parent Consent Form for Student Activity/Athletic Participation that can be found HERE!

BEFORE SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAM -  1ST and 2ND GRADE
We are offering a Before School Sports Program for all 2nd grade students which will meet on Tuesday mornings beginning August 27th.  First grade Before School Sports Program will start on November 5, and more information will be available soon . Your child will be welcome to attend 10 sessions between 7:45-8:15 where we will play favorite games in the big gym before school begins. A calendar of the meeting dates is posted below.  Children do not have to attend every session that is offered.  Children will be expected to find their own transportation (not on the school bus) and can be dropped off at the FRONT OF THE BUILDING AT 7:45.   If your child attends the Club House program you will need to notify them about your child’s participation in our program.  In order for your child to participate, we will need the District 96 Parent Consent Form for Student Activity/Athletic Participation that can be found HERE

Thanks!
Ms. Groessl and Mr. Emde

Approved Snacks: What Parents Need to Know

The District has revised the APPROVED SNACK LIST, adding more items to this list to give families more choices. The items the list includes are free of the Top 8 allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.

This list includes the foods that are approved for students' Daily Snacks. It also includes (for children in Grades 1–5) foods approved for Special Events such as birthday treats for a class or for PTO Halloween, Winter, or Valentine's Day parties.

IMPORTANT: All items for Daily Snacks–with the exception of fruits and vegetables–MUST be prepackaged to allow staff to easily check that snacks meet the approved requirements.

Director of Educational Services Amy Gluck also has provided responses to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) about foods approved for daily snacks/special events.

For your convenience, find links to the District 96 Approved Snack List and Approved Snack List FAQs on the homepage of the District 96 website and the homepage of each school.

MAP Assessments August 19th-28th

District 96 students in kindergarten through Grade 8 will be participating in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in the areas of math and reading/language arts during portions of their school days August 19th-28th.

The MAP assessment is given three times during the school year to equip our teachers with data they will use to identify their students' current understanding as well as opportunities for support and extension. Students do not need to study for their MAP tests; sufficient sleep and nutrition are, as always, the best preparation. This assessment serves as a benchmark–a point in time from which to measure academic growth through the academic year.

For more information about MAP assessments, please see the following resources:

PARENT’S GUIDE TO MAP GROWTH (Need a TRANSLATION?)

ABOUT MAP: PARENT TOOLKIT

In September KCSD96 parents will receive info by email with directions for accessing their child’s MAP assessment results online.

If you have questions about MAP assessments, please contact your student’s principal.
