Kildeer Principal's Message- May 31st

Kildeer Principal's Message- May 31st

Kildeer Families,

It's hard to believe that this is the final principal message of the 18-19 school year. The last few weeks have gone by quickly and I know that we are all eager for the summer ahead. I continue to be amazed with our staff and students because even with just a few days left, I see students engaged in reading, having classroom meetings to check in with the "zones", and lots of smiles. The end of the year is truly very celebratory!

Speaking of celebrations, we will host our final Cougar Pride Assembly of the school year on Tuesday. When students walked in on the first day of school we all gathered in the large gym to celebrate. I'm happy to say that this is how we will close out our school year, too. The assembly includes time to recognize students involved in extracurricular activities, opportunities for students to lead out the assembly, a fun way to encourage summer reading, and even a final "dancing" farewell to our 5th-graders!

Be on the lookout next week for a link to our summer reading video. The photo this week is a sneak peek. You'll just have to wait to check out our sweet moves at Kildeer!

2019 SUMMER READING/ASSIGNMENT–Remember to Read!
We encourage summer reading for all our students. This practice is important–research suggests that students can lose more than two months of academic progress if they don't continue to read during summer months.

Please see SUMMER READING for the parent letter/reading assignment info and suggested reading resources for your student (by grade level).

On Tuesday evening, I had the opportunity to attend 8th-grade graduation. I always look forward to seeing students and families come together to celebrate this momentous occasion! If you think about it, isn't graduation what it's all about? We are preparing our students for the next chapter in their lives and 8th-grade graduation sums it up.

The theme of the night was that our words and actions matter. I think about our 5th-graders that will walk out the doors of Kildeer for the final time as a student on Tuesday. My challenge to each and every one of YOU is to consider your words and actions moving forward and how you can make a positive impact on others.

With that, congratulations to our 5th-graders. It has been an absolute pleasure being your principal for the past three years. I will never forget our "Principal and the Pea" musical together and the heart print you've left on me. The sky is the limit and you have bright futures ahead.

Don't worry, I already told Mr. Grana that he is getting some pretty amazing students heading his way.

Enjoy the summer ahead and we will see everyone else in August!

Warm Regards,

Principal Vail Kieser
