Kildeer Principal's Message- April 19th

Kildeer Principal's Message

Kildeer Families,

This week marked my very last "Picnic with the Principal" of the year. I was able to dine with each class over this school year and it is absolutely one of the best parts of my job! Thank you to Ms. Dolin's students for finishing this up on such a positive note.

Additionally, this week marked the start of IAR testing for our students. As a system, we are trying something new this year and have one assessment a day during the morning only. So far, I've heard great feedback. As I turned the corner on Tuesday, I saw that someone had decorated our stairwell for an extra way to celebrate students.

We recognize assessments can seem overwhelming for students so as a school we've really worked on making sure we go back to the "why" and that it's really all about showing what they know. Our students have been such hard workers and I can confidently say that we are all so proud of the growth we've seen this school year.

As you head into the weekend, please be sure to give your child a high-five, hug, or fist-bump from Kildeer!

Kildeer "Kares" 2019
It's no surprise that our staff members are an integral part of the caring community that characterizes Kildeer School. And that will be even more obvious beginning on Apr. 29 and continuing through May when Kildeer Staff will be donating money for the opportunity to wear jeans to Kildeer on school days.

Through Kildeer Kares 2019, five charities they've designated as important to them will benefit, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Apr. 29–May 3); the Autism Society–Have Dreams (May 6–10); the American Brain Tumor Association (May 13–17); St. Jude's Children's Hospital (May 20–24); and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (May 27–31).  Last year, our Kildeer Staff's casual attire days raised over $1100 in donations.

Next week I'm thrilled that we will host our spring book fair! If you have a current first grader or incoming first grader, please join us Wednesday night for "Evening Story Time". This is a tradition at Kildeer that helps with welcoming our incoming students to show them what a special place Kildeer is to be! It promises to be a welcoming evening with a guest performance from our very own chorus! The bookfair will also be open for evening hours.

I leave this blog post with a shout-out to our PTO. I'm a firm believer in perspective taking and sometimes it's difficult to understand what goes into a position if we've never experienced it ourselves. For example, I have yet to be on the parent side because my children are still so young. However, being a part of our executive board meetings and seeing the volunteers in and out on a daily basis helps me to appreciate all of the work, the time, and the dedication to make Kildeer the best place to be!

Later this spring we will host a volunteer breakfast to really celebrate! In the meantime, thank you to each and every PTO executive board member, committee chair, and volunteer that has given time to support our students this year!

Warm Regards,

Principal Vail Kieser
