Kildeer Principal's Message-May 25th

Kildeer Principal's Message-May 25th

Dear Kildeer Families,

It's the time of year where we are in a lot of transition. For example, only days ago it was raining so hard we had flood warnings and now the past few days have been filled with warmth and sunshine. We also welcomed the current Kindergarteners to our school this week to get them excited and prepared to join us in the fall. Lastly, our 5th graders have been very busy this week visiting Woodlawn Middle School and participating in fun activities in their final days as 5th-graders!

I want to thank all of our staff, students, and parents for making these final weeks of the school year so meaningful. Our field day was a HUGE success and it's always a good time seeing the bright smiles on everyone's faces.

Summer Goal-Setting OPTION for Elementary Students

District 96 students do a lot of learning during the school year! The National Summer Learning Association reports that students can lose up to 3 months of academic learning in a summer, however. Why not keep the learning going by helping your student set and work to meet goals for math and literacy learning in ways that are fun and interesting?

Parents interested in this optional opportunity for their child will find lots of engaging activities on THIS WEBSITE and can use THIS FORM to help their student set goals and track progress.

Dear Parents , Students and Staff,

Thank you for supporting our Mother’s Day Craft Fair. We earned $450.00.

That is a lot of money!  All of the money will be divided up equally and going to the following charities that all the fifth grade classes chose.

  • Paws
  • Make a Wish
  • Special Olympics
  • St. Judes

The 5th graders enjoyed making our crafts like pinch pots, suncatchers, tiles, cards, mirrors, wreaths, and many more! We  also enjoyed the raffles for the prizes:

Air Balloons, Glass Plates with beautiful pictures, bags, bracelets and much more wonderful crafts. We learned so much about working hard and making these gifts, and learning about selling products.  It was fun! We appreciate all the fifth grade students that bought their mother’s some wonderful gifts. Hope they enjoyed these items.

Thanks again

iPad Policy Change for 2018-19

The end of the year is a busy time for everyone, but it's always good to get a head start and thinking next year. The policy concerning iPad damage will be different next year. This change is reflected on the flyer below and in greater detail in the 2018-19 Student Handbook.

Summer Reading for Student Growth

Having students continue to read during the summer when school is not in session is extremely important to their academic growth and to prevent them from losing academic progress.

Because our goal is to have our students continue to read for pleasure, we offer grade-level-specific book suggestion lists of various genres to appeal to a variety of interests.

Also, grade levels have assigned specific activities as well as a student interest inventory to complete and return at the beginning of the school year.

Please CLICK HERE to find your student's parent letter (including required grade-level activity), book suggestions, and reader interest inventory, listed by 2018-2019 grade level.

Questions? Please contact the school office.

In one short week it will be our final blog of the year. I am simply amazed by how time flies so fast. One year ago I was on maternity leave and now I have a 1-year-old and 3-year-old. I'm sure you are all reflecting on how it probably feels like the first day of school was just a blink ago.

Enjoy the 3-day weekend ahead and I look forward to a great final week of school at Kildeer! As a reminder, Friday, June 1st is a half day for students.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Vail Kieser
