Kildeer Principal's Message-January 12th

Kildeer Principal's Message-January 12th

Dear Kildeer Families,

Welcome back from break! It was so exciting to see all of the students. We learned a lot about some very fun activities you were able to enjoy with your children with the two weeks off, as well as goals and resolutions for the 2018 year ahead!

As we kick off the new year, I find it only fitting to share with you some work that we've done together as a faculty very recently. Every school in the district has been involved in digging deeper into our mission, vision, and values. We have looked very closely at the value statements and then reflected on what they mean to us. I'd love to share with you what we stand for at Kildeer Elementary School!

Model for others what we expect from others

Right away when you walk into our front office, you are greeted warmly by the amazing Mrs. Fineman and Mrs. Campbell. When you think about "model for others what you expect from others", it's about the golden rule! We want all of our students, parents, staff, and community members to always feel welcome here. Thus, we make it a top priority to make the first impression a great one!

Every child, every school, every day

As you enter our school, we've added a gorgeous sign in the main hallway. This sign includes "welcome" in many different languages. At Kildeer, we have a vast amount of cultures represented and we value learning from each other. The day after we had it installed, it was amazing to watch students pause in the hallway to celebrate their own language being represented.

Best practice, not first practice

One of the things we pride ourselves on is our commitment to professional learning. Everything we do focuses on what is best for kids and how to support meeting the true potential in all children. Thinking maps and Kagan cooperative learning are just a couple of examples of providing research-based and effective strategies for children!

Learning has no boundaries

We can do anything we put our minds to! On a daily basis, students are offered differentiated learning opportunities to meet their needs. We use technology as a tool and incorporate aspects of STEM to enhance student learning!

Celebrate success

All over our school are symbols of success. Our blue ribbon is hung proudly on the front of our building. If you pass through the cafeteria, student names scroll across the monitors to celebrate earning cougar paws. On a weekly basis, our staff builds each other up by submitting "shout-outs" to spread cheer and recognize colleagues for a "job well done". Additionally, the most stunning and beautiful artwork can be seen all around the hallways and stairwells. All of these are indicators of celebrating success!

It is without hesitation that our Kildeer Elementary School is living and breathing our district mission, vision, and values. We are all about putting our students first and making sure that each student is given the opporunity to be the best version of themselves!

The Toys for Tots drive was a great success! We collected 230 toys for kids who are less fortunate. US Marine Soldier Gunnery Sergeant Brake is one person who helps run the toy drive. Erin's Law

An Illinois law known as Erin's Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Kildeer Countryside School District 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult's touching him or her is not the child's fault.

Parents who would like to preview the information he will present to KCSD96 elementary students may attend a program with Mr. Pacini at 6 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 23, in the Mat Room at Ivy Hall School, 1072 Ivy Hall Ln., Buffalo Grove

The presentation to Kildeer School students will be during the school day on Wed., Feb. 7.

If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request–or your questions–to me at [email protected]MORE INFO
