Good Afternoon, Ivy Hall Families,
Thank you to all of our families who joined us yesterday evening for Family Reading Night! It was a spectacular family event and our school’s love for literacy was on full display. A special thanks to Mrs. Heimer and our staff volunteers for their efforts in making Family Reading Night a success. If you didn’t have a chance to make it, we hope to see you next year!
We are in session for Monday and Tuesday only of next week and there will be no new Principal’s Message released next Friday. I wanted to take a moment to wish you a restful and wonderful Thanksgiving break holiday. Please savor this time off to be with your family and to share words of gratitude with the loved ones around you. I am certainly grateful for the opportunity I have to lead Ivy Hall and that I have the honor to connect with all students and families.
Have a great weekend,
Mike Senatore

NEW *Winter Weather Is Upon Us*
As you’re all aware, winter is upon us. And with it, comes the possibility of winter weather in the months ahead. In this evening’s edition of E-News from the District, you will be reading about KCSD96’s Inclement Weather Procedures. It’s important that families read this information and discuss your family’s plan in the case of inclement weather. This information also includes how the district will communicate school closures, delayed starts, and planned early dismissals with our families.
Additionally, I want to take a moment to discuss our Ivy Hall protocols when it comes to winter weather safety. When snow is present, students must have a jacket, boots, snow pants and gloves in order to play in the snow. Please make sure all your child's winter gear is labeled with your child's name.
NEW *Cough Drops*
As cold and flu season is upon us - here is a reminder from our student handbook: "For the safety of all, medication must be brought to school by the parent or another responsible adult. The medication must be in its correct prescription container, showing the child’s name, the name of the drug, the dosage to be given, and the time of administration. Medication containers must be stored in the health office and students may consume medicine only in the health office." This includes acetaminophen, cough drops, or any other nonprescription, over-the-counter medication.
NEW *Family Coffee and Conversation*
KCSD96 is excited to host another "New to KCSD96: Family Coffee and Conversation"! This is an opportunity for parents and guardians of newly registered students to ask questions and share information about their transition in a casual and fun way. This will be communicated in Friday's E-News, but we would love it if you helped us spread the word!
This year’s Coffee starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3rd, at Ivy Hall Elementary School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove in the Educational Development Center (EDC).
It is an informal opportunity for these new parents and guardians to ask questions and share their thoughts — with other parents and staff — about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can learn from the experiences of others.
New parents/guardians who missed the New Family Tours in August are encouraged to attend this conversation. Those who did attend the tours are welcome to join this conversation to share how they are adjusting to the District 96 culture.
Coffee and other refreshments will be served.
For planning purposes, RSVP.
This is an event only for parents and guardians.
REPEAT *Yearbook Club*
Yearbook Club is open to 4th and 5th graders this year.
We would love to have your student help us contribute to this year's school yearbook! Yearbook club will meet 1-2 times per month after school as well as a few times before school or during lunch/recess*. Students will be tasked with creating pages for the 2024-2025 yearbook. Students will take photos, help choose photos and edit stories for the yearbook! Additional days may be added as the deadline approaches.
*before school times and lunch/recess times would be optional
Students will be separated into different groups and not all students will attend each meeting.
