Friday, December 15th, 2023

Dear Ivy Hall Families,

Today, students had the opportunity to enjoy the first PTO Assembly this school year featuring Lloyd Bacharch who taught students to always believe in themselves. Ask your child about the assembly they attended today!

We can feel the excitement in the school as we near closer to Winter Break. As a fun way to celebrate, our student council has organized a Spirit Week for next week.  See below for the Spirit Week schedule.

Additionally, winter classroom parties are scheduled for next Thursday, December 21st. Thank you in advance to the PTO and all the parent volunteers who help support and lead these fun activities.

Have a great weekend,

Mike Senatore

NEW *Smart Watches*

SMART watches are starting to show up here at the elementary schools. Many SMART watches have similar capabilities to SMART phones (game, voice, and text capabilities).  If a SMART watch becomes a distraction or is used for communication, it may be confiscated and stored in the office to remove the distraction from the learning environment. Essentially, we will treat the SMART watches like a cell phone. Confiscated equipment may be picked up in the office at the end of the day by the student(s). If a pattern of distraction occurs, parents may be asked to pick up the technology.

REPEAT *Spirit Week Hosted by Student Council*

REPEAT *Picking Up Students From Clubs On Time*

Please note that students must be picked up promptly at the end of each after school club. If you are tardy in picking your child up, you will be given one courtesy reminder. On the second occasion, the student will be unenrolled from the club. Thank you for your understanding and support as school officially closes as soon as the club is over.

REPEAT *Recess During the Winter*

For students to play in the snow, they must have snow pants, boots, gloves, and a jacket.  This applies to both the field and the playground area. This ensures that their clothes, hands, and feet are dry for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon.  Students who do not have snow pants and boots can still play on the blacktop area.

REPEAT *Newcomer Coffee and Conversation*

District 96 hosts a Newcomer Coffee & Conversation for parents and guardians of newly registered students, to give them an opportunity to ask questions and share information about their transition.

This year’s Coffee starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Ivy Hall Elementary School (Mat Room), 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.

It is an informal opportunity for these new parents and guardians to ask questions and share their thoughts ~ with other parents and staff ~ about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can glean from the experiences of others.

New parents/guardians who missed the New Family Tours in August are encouraged to attend this conversation.  Those who did attend the tours are welcome to join this conversation to share how they are adjusting to the District 96 culture.

Coffee and other refreshments will be served.

For planning purposes, RSVP by December 13

This is an event only for parents and guardians.
