May 7, 2021

Dear Families,

First and foremost I want to thank the community and the Ivy Hall PTO for the outpouring of support for our teachers and staff during this teacher appreciation week. The donations of food and other items were donated by many and carefully and thoughtfully assembled by the Ivy Hall PTO. The food and sentiments were an incredible testament to the community's gratuity.

We have some exciting items coming up for the end of the year so be sure to check this message and the PTO blog for information around these exciting items. We also had some exciting things happen at Ivy Hall this week. Please take a look below.

Fondly,

Bob Hanrahan, Principal

NEW *Ivy Hall 5th Grade Parade May 27, 2021*

The 5th-grade vehicle parade is taking shape. A more detailed plan with visuals and directions will follow in next week’s principal’s message, but I wanted to start getting some of the details out there now. Staff will begin lining up cars (OF 5th GRADE FAMILIES) in the parking lot by the playground in the back of the school beginning at 3:30 pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021. We will have a parade lap around the school in a counter-clockwise direction. We will be using the streets directly surrounding Ivy Hall and Ivy Hall park to complete our lap. We invite all to come out and cheer our 5th graders on to 6th grade and to celebrate their time here at Ivy Hall. If you plan to attend as a view or the parade please use street parking on Alden and Parker lanes to avoid placing more traffic along the parade route. Again more details to follow.

NEW *Walk/Bike to School Day*

Next Thursday, May 13, 2021, Ivy Hall will like to encourage those that willing and able, to participate in our school's recognition of the National Bike/Walk to School day. The national event for Bike to School actually took place last week. We would like to try it next week! If you don’t have a bike, no problem, you can walk to school too! Remember to wear all safety gear (if biking), including a helmet, and follow all traffic signs and signals. Also, a fun fact, Ivy Hall's Mrs. Leslie Levin's mother was one of the original founders of the original event. We look forward to good weather and participation by those willing and able.

NEW *Stuff the Squad*

Ivy Hall Wildcats lived up to the name of the event and we STUFFED the squad car! It is with a full heart that I am eager and pleased to report that Ivy Hall had a staggering amount of food donations for STUFF THE SQUAD. Our staff and students donated enough food and home items to fill the Buffalo Grove Police cruiser. See pictures below.

MATERIALS

Please remember to check the IVY HALL MATERIALS SHEET (also good for remote learners) to see which materials your child will need for class.  If you have any questions, please contact the appropriate teacher.

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

Please arrive no earlier than 8:10 am as this is when staff is on duty to supervise students.  If your child is tardy you must enter the building to sign him/her in.

CHANGE IN AFTER SCHOOL PICK-UP FOR YOUR CHILD

If your child will not be taking the bus home after school, please send a handwritten note or call the office to let us know.  Please DO NOT send emails of this nature, as we cannot guarantee that an email will be seen prior to school dismissal

ADDITIONAL ROUTINE ITEMS OF NOTE

It is still chilly!  We may go outside for short breaks so please ensure that your child has the proper outerwear.

Children will be bringing iPads and Logitech iPad "crayons" between home and school daily.  Please develop a routine of charging both every night and putting them in their backpack each morning.  A helpful tip is to post a sign at child eye level on the door where your child will exit in the morning.  You can make a picture checklist of this and anything else to support your child to develop independence with morning routines.

Children may bring individual water bottles to school.  They should not be glass and should have a spill-proof top.  Please label your child's water bottle with his/her name.

MOST IMPORTANTLY:

Parents must do the DAILY self-certification for their child.  Parents must submit a daily self-certification prior to their student being allowed to attend in person. Parents will need to download the TeacherEase app if they haven't already in order to access the daily self-certification form.  Please see this video for further instruction: (Dist 96: In-Person Parent Video Instruction).

COMMITMENT TO PARTNERSHIP

We are confident that the District 96 community will rise to the occasion and partner with us to ensure the safety and success of our hybrid learning plan. Please think carefully about your commitment to our partnership before sending your child to school.  Please review our In-Person Learning Protocols

MASKS FOR IN-PERSON LEARNERS

Send your student to school with a comfortable mask that complies with CDC/ISBE guidelines, ensuring that the face-covering fully covers the mouth and nose and that the covering fits snugly against the sides of the face with no gaps.
