ACCESS Your Child’s MAP Student Progress Report January 8, 2020 (NEW)
The District will send a School Messenger email Jan. 8, 2020, between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm with instructions for accessing your child's MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) student progress report online. The message will include links to more information about understanding student growth, RIT scores, and general information about the MAP assessment.

Preventing missed MAP and other emails from School District 96...
Delivery by several specific email service providers has been an issue on some occasions. If you use MSN, Outlook, Hotmail, or Live as your email provider, please consider taking the following steps to prevent missed emails from School District 96:
- Log into MSN, Outlook, Hotmail, or Live from a computer workstation
- Click the PEOPLE icon in the extreme lower left-hand corner of the page (next to the Mail and Calendar icons). A new window will open.
- On the new window, click NEW CONTACT.
- Type in Jeanne Spiller in the First Name/Last Name fields.
- Type in [email protected] into the email address field.
- Click CREATE.
Repeat this process multiple times as you wish, creating contacts for your building principal (names/email addresses below) and E-NEWS 96: Betsy Fresen, [email protected].

Parents Asked to Complete 5Essentials Survey
School District 96 parents are asked to complete online the parent/guardian portion of the 8th-annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey by Jan. 10, 2020.

As a parent, this is your opportunity to share your thoughts on important elements of your child’s school’s effectiveness. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.
The survey includes 21 questions and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your identity and survey responses are completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. Please complete a survey for each school you have a student attending.

Author Coming to Ivy Hall (New)
Ivy Hall is proud to announce a visit from award-winning author, speaker, actor, and educator, Pablo Cartaya. Pablo has acted on stage and television (notably co-starring on NBC’s "Will & Grace") and frequently gives talks around the country on writing, reading, and multilingualism. We are so excited for our students in grades 3-5 to participate in this presentation. If you would like an autographed copy of one of his books, please download this form and send it to school by January 15th.
Winter Parties (New)
I want to thank the PTO, staff, parent volunteers, room parents, and students for celebrating a great first half of the school year. I am including some pictures from the winter parties here.
Girls on the Run (Repeat)
The goal of Girls on the Run is to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, and physical development. At the end of the season, the girls participate in the Girls on the Run Chicago 5k. The program is open to girls in Grades 3-5. Running experience is not required.
Ivy Hall Girls on the Run will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:20 p.m. Each session consists of a lesson and running. The season begins in early March 2020 and practices continue through mid to late May 2020. Participants are expected to attend all practices. If your student is already involved in an activity that conflicts with Girls on the Run, please do not submit an interest form at this time.
Ivy Hall Girls on the Run will participate in the Girls on the Run Chicago North 5k. The tentative date and location of the Girls on the Run 5k has not yet been determined. All girls must have a running buddy for the Girls on the Run 5k. Running buddies must be 18 years of age or older (16 years of age if the running buddy is a sibling) and can be male or female. Girls on the Run will provide a running buddy if necessary.
The registration fee is $205 per girl. This fee includes a t-shirt, water bottle, snack at each practice, and registration for the Girls on the Run 5k. Full and partial scholarships are available; please apply at the time of registration.
Please submit this form by Friday, January 11, 2020, if your student is interested in participating in Girls on the Run at Ivy Hall. Please understand that by submitting this form, you have not registered for Girls on the Run. We have a limit of 20 girls we can have in the program; depending on interest, if we receive more than 20 applications, we may need to utilize a lottery system. Please have a conversation with your daughter, whether she has previously participated or not, that there is a possibility that she may not be able to participate this year. We encourage all interested girls to submit an interest form, whether or not they have previously participated.
The coaches will contact parents with more information in January.
**After the January 11th deadline, participants will be added on a first-come, first-served basis.

2020–2021 Calendar Change Notification (Repeat)
District 96 has made revisions to the published Quick List calendar for the upcoming 2020–2021 school year.
The revisions made accommodate the alignment of the District 96 Spring Break 2021 with the recently published Stevenson students’ Spring Break 2021.

Please remember to send your child to school daily with proper outerwear. Weather permitting students go outside for recess every day. In winter the temperature and wind chill and weather conditions will be monitored throughout the morning. The weather website and playground will be checked to determine whether conditions are appropriate for children’s outdoor recess. When the temperature or wind chill is below zero degrees, students will be kept inside for recess. We weigh options when the temperature or wind chill is between zero to ten degrees, to determine if we have indoor or outdoor recess, such as how damp it is outside. We do try to allow the children to go outside whenever possible, so please help them to come prepared. Thank you!
How is Outdoor vs. Indoor Recess Determined (New)
Weather permitting students go outside for recess every day. In winter the temperature and wind chill and weather conditions will be monitored throughout the morning. The weather Website and playground will be checked and outside supervisors consulted to determine whether conditions are appropriate for children’s outdoor recess. When the temperature or wind chill is below zero degrees, students will be kept inside for recess. When the temperature or wind chill is 0 – 10 degrees, students may go outside for a shortened recess period. If a student has a doctor’s note or a medical condition, he or she may stay inside the building office for recess.
Determination of whether children will have outdoor recess will be made prior to each recess period, based on the weather at the moment and in the judgment of the principal or his or her designee. Any request for prolonged indoor recess MUST come from the child’s physician.

Car Pick Up & Car Drop Off (Repeat)
ONLY MAKE A RIGHT-HAND TURN ONLY INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, please DO NOT MAKE A LEFT INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT DURING CAR DROP OFF AND CAR PICK UP AT DISMISSAL.
THIS PROCEDURE IS LISTED IN THE PARENT STUDENT HANDBOOK. THIS PROCEDURE HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS. HERE
The traffic pattern for the CAR rolling drop off and CAR rolling pick up is clockwise around Ivy Hall. Your RIGHT TURN should be made from Penny Lane into the lot. NEVER A LEFT TURN into the southwest recess lot.
We have and will continue to have the Buffalo Grove police helping us enforce this procedure. This procedure was developed with the Buffalo Grove Police Department for student safety. Thank you for helping keep kids safe.
Car Drop Off *** Students must be signed in via the front office after 8:25am. Please DO NOT drop students off in the east lot, without walking them into the office and signing them in.
Car Pick Up *** There are a few commercial vehicles that are permitted to make a left into the south lot. These vehicles do not participate in the rolling car line, but we have no other avenue to load these vehicles. This only occurs during CAR pick up. Thank you for your continued help allowing these vehicles into the lot. They will not join the line in front of you, they will pass on the right side of the line. We also stop the line to allow these vehicles to exit.
*** Only students that are being picked up in the southwest lot are permitted to be in the lot.
IF YOU ARE WALKING TO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, MEETING A STUDENT, AND THEN WALKING AWAY …
YOUR STUDENT IS A WALKER NOT A CAR PICK UP. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER AND MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT ACCORDING (SO YOUR STUDENT IS DISMISSED OUT THE NORTH EXIT).
YOUR STUDENT WILL BE DISMISSED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING BY THE OFFICE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT NEED SUPERVISION IN THE SOUTHWEST LOT AND INCREASE SAFETY.
ALSO PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE RESERVED PARKING LOT
