Ivy Hall Elementary School Announced as a Blue Ribbon School (New)

Yesterday it was announced by Spokesperson Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos that Ivy Hall Elementary School has been awarded the 2019 National Blue Ribbon.  If you have not had a chance to read the message sent to families yesterday, please take a moment to read it now.

This is a very significant day for District 96 and for Ivy Hall Elementary School.

Spokesperson Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced today that the United States Department of Education will honor 312 public and 50 private schools for their academic excellence with their most distinguished recognition.

District 96 Ivy Hall Elementary School is among those selected to receive the prestigious 2019 U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon Schools Award.

Schools honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools are committed to student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Their work reflects the certainty that every child has promise and that education is the pathway to fulfilling a child’s dream for the future.

Public and private elementary, middle, and high schools receive National Blue Ribbon School recognition in one of two categories–“exemplary high performing” and “exemplary improving.” Ivy Hall earned recognition in the high-performing category, as measured by state assessments and nationally normed tests.

Ivy Hall Elementary School has earned the District’s eighth U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon. It is the second National Blue Ribbon awarded to our school.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program began in 1982. (A school may be nominated only once in a five-year period.)

District 96 schools were awarded the National Blue Ribbon in 2007 (Twin Groves), 2008 (Ivy Hall), 2009 (Woodlawn), 2012 (Kildeer), 2013 (Twin Groves), 2016 (Woodlawn), and 2017 (Prairie).

It will be my privilege to join an Ivy Hall faculty member (to be named) in accepting our Ivy Hall 2019 National Blue Ribbon at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in early November. This award reflects the inspiring commitment to learning and the focused determination of our amazing students, faculty, and staff.

This award also celebrates our Ivy Hall families. Our home-school connection is essential to our success. The priority that our Ivy Hall families place on their children’s education and their life-long learning contributes significantly to the outcomes we achieve collaboratively.

I am so proud to serve as your principal and I look forward to celebrating this very significant recognition with our students, families, faculty, administrators, Board of Education, and community dignitaries at a special event later this year. Please watch my Principal Message for the date and details.

Congratulations, Ivy Hall!

Enhanced Lockdown (New)

On Thursday, September 26, 2019, Ivy Hall staff and students successfully completed an enhanced lockdown drill.

Students, teachers, and building staff participated in a drill together to help us consider and review best practice options and actions we could take to keep us safe if an intruder were to enter our school.

Our drill was overseen and supervised by Ivy Hall building administration, the district director of facilities and transportation, Sam Miranda, and Officer Ashley Krozel of the Buffalo Grove Police Department. Ivy Hall students performed very well during the drill. Our students were calm throughout and their thoughtful conversation together with their teachers reflects their understanding of response options for safety in a variety of scenarios.

Halloween Costumes (Repeat)

As October is here, please help us with the following costume procedures and guidelines...

Students will change into their costumes after the lunch period.
Costumes must be appropriate for school.

  • Please no masks, blood, super scary stuff, general iciness, or weapons

  • Please no cigars or cigarette items

  • Please no bare tummies

  • Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple
Can students go home for lunch to get into costumes?

Home for Lunch to Change (Repeat)

Students are able to be picked up to go home during their own grade level lunch period. See below for specific times and details. Students will meet their parent/grandparent/family member in the foyer of the school. Please write a note stating that students will be going home for lunch. Students will give their “going home for lunch” note to the staff members who are supervising pick-up. Students need to return to school by the end of their lunch/recess period.

Lunch/recess periods are as follows:

1st grade at 11:30am - 12:10pm
2nd grade at 10:50am - 11:30am
3rd grade at 11:10am - 11:50pm
4th grade at 11:50am - 12:30am
5th grade at 12:10pm - 12:50pm

Thank you for helping us to keep our Halloween activities fun and safe!

Car Pick Up & Car Drop Off (Repeat)

ONLY MAKE A RIGHT-HAND TURN ONLY INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, please DO NOT MAKE A LEFT INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT DURING DROPOFF AND DISMISSAL.

THIS PROCEDURE IS LISTED IN THE PARENT STUDENT HANDBOOK. THIS PROCEDURE HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS. HERE

The traffic pattern for the CAR rolling drop off and CAR rolling pick up is clockwise around Ivy Hall. Your RIGHT TURN should be made from Penny Lane into the lot. NEVER A LEFT TURN into the southwest recess lot.

We have and will continue to have the Buffalo Grove police helping us enforce this procedure. This procedure was developed with the Buffalo Grove Police Department for student safety. Thank you for helping keep kids safe.

*** There are a few commercial vehicles that are permitted to make a left into the south lot. These vehicles do not participate in the rolling car line, but we have no other avenue to load these vehicles. This only occurs during CAR pick up. Thank you for your continued help allowing these vehicles into the lot. They will not join the line in front of you, they will pass on the right side of the line. We also stop the line to allow these vehicles to exit.

Car Pick Up & Car Drop Off

IF YOU ARE WALKING TO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, MEETING A STUDENT, AND THEN WALKING AWAY …

YOUR STUDENT IS A WALKER NOT A CAR PICK UP. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER AND MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT ACCORDING (SO YOUR STUDENT IS DISMISSED OUT THE NORTH EXIT).

YOUR STUDENT WILL BE DISMISSED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING BY THE OFFICE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT NEED SUPERVISION IN THE SOUTHWEST LOT AND INCREASE SAFETY.
