Halloween Costumes (New)

As October is here, please help us with the following costume procedures and guidelines ...

Students will change into their costumes after the lunch period.
Costumes must be appropriate for school.

  • Please no masks, blood, super scary stuff, general iciness, or weapons

  • Please no cigars or cigarette items

  • Please no bare tummies

  • Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple
Can students go home for lunch to get into costumes?

Home for Lunch to Change (New)

Students are able to be picked up to go home during their own grade level lunch period. See below for specific times and details. Students will meet their parent/grandparent/family member in the foyer of the school. Please write a note stating that students will be going home for lunch. Students will give their “going home for lunch” note to the staff members who are supervising pick-up. Students need to return to school by the end of their lunch/recess period.

Lunch/recess periods are as follows:

1st grade at 11:30am - 12:10pm
2nd grade at 10:50am - 11:30am
3rd grade at 11:10am - 11:50pm
4th grade at 11:50am - 12:30am
5th grade at 12:10pm - 12:50pm

Thank you for helping us to keep our Halloween activities fun and safe!

PTO Coordinating Council Meeting (New)

This week the PTO coordinating councils from all seven buildings met at Ivy Hall to review policy and procedures that determine how the District 96 PTOs operate. At that meeting, we reviewed policies that govern important items like purchasing, fundraising, special lunches, safe snack, and more. If you are interested in getting involved in the PTO at Ivy Hall please contact me or sign up to volunteer on a committee via the PTO Tool Kit.

Special Lunch (New)

If the PTO does not have receipt of your special lunch order for a student, they are advised NOT to provide a special lunch for that student. I realize that shoulds unkind, however here are the reasons that are other than financial. Please see the four important reasons why we advise PTO volunteers to NOT provide special lunch to students that do not have a documented order.

  1. Allowing a student to have a special lunch may bypass the wishes of the parent or guardian

  2. Allowing a student to obtain a special lunch that was not planned for, could result in a shortage of food for those that have been accounted for

  3. Food allergies are a consideration here. If food is provided for a student without parent or guardian knowledge a student may inadvertently consume food they are allergic to

  4. There are religious considerations that involve food. Even though a student may really want a special lunch, if it is provided without documented permission and payment we may be providing food that is not considerate of the aforementioned religious concern.

Help Prevent Missed Emails from School District 96 (New)

Some District 96 parents reported they did not receive their student's MAP scores sent by email (from [email protected]) on Sept. 6. Delivery by several specific email service providers proved to be problematic.

The District has received the following specific instructions to help prevent missed emails for parents/guardians who use one of the following email service providers: MSN, Outlook, Hotmail, or Live

  •  Log into MSN, Outlook, Hotmail, or Live from a computer workstation.
  • Click the PEOPLE icon in the extreme lower left-hand corner of the page (next to the Mail and Calendar icons). A new window will open.
  • On the new window, click NEW CONTACT.
  • Type in Jeanne Spiller into the First Name and Last Name fields.
  • Type in [email protected] into the email address field.
  • Click CREATE.

(Ms. Spiller is the District's assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.)

Repeat this process multiple times as you wish, creating contacts for your building principal (names/email addresses follow) and E-NEWS 96: Betsy Fresen, [email protected]

Principal Names/Email Addresses:

If you use another service provider for your email than those listed above, you might consider following your service provider's instructions for adding contacts to your address book.

PTO News/Blog (New)

Car Pick Up & Car Drop Off (Repeat)

ONLY MAKE A RIGHT-HAND TURN ONLY INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, please DO NOT MAKE A LEFT INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT DURING DROPOFF AND DISMISSAL.

THIS PROCEDURE IS LISTED IN THE PARENT STUDENT HANDBOOK. THIS PROCEDURE HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS. HERE

The traffic pattern for the CAR rolling drop off and CAR rolling pick up is clockwise around Ivy Hall. Your RIGHT TURN should be made from Penny Lane into the lot. NEVER A LEFT TURN into the southwest recess lot.

We have and will continue to have the Buffalo Grove police helping us enforce this procedure. This procedure was developed with the Buffalo Grove Police Department for student safety. Thank you for helping keep kids safe.

*** There are a few commercial vehicles that are permitted to make a left into the south lot. These vehicles do not participate in the rolling car line, but we have no other avenue to load these vehicles. This only occurs during CAR pick up. Thank you for your continued help allowing these vehicles into the lot. They will not join the line in front of you, they will pass on the right side of the line. We also stop the line to allow these vehicles to exit.
