Fun Run- A Little History and Some Pictures (New)

PICTURES FROM TODAYS FUN RUN

Every year Ivy Hall Wildcats participate in the Fun Run to join together for a morning of fitness.  But, do you know the origin of this run?

In 1980, a woman serving as the PTO president thought it would be a great idea if there was some sort of run or race around her children’s school as a way to get the community involved as well as lift school spirit. She decided to lay cones around the neighborhood of the school so runners would know the right path to take. All of the neighboring schools came to participate in the Red Oak run. Everyone wore a “Red Oak Run” t-shirt and the day of the race. It was a complete success and the talk of the town! What was once the Red Oak Run turned into a district fun run. Now neighboring districts, as well as districts all over the country, have fun runs because of this one special woman. That woman is, Terry Shulman, the mother of our first-grade teacher Mrs. Levin.

Today was the Ivy Hall Fun Run! Kids ran on school grounds in this second annual fall event. Students had been practicing the route during P.E. class and it really showed. Children did a great job utilizing the practiced route. The students took 25 minutes to run/walk as much as they wanted on the half-mile course. I want to thank all the volunteers, Mrs. Mollerdino, Mr. Spangler, Mrs. Cigrand, Ms. Flavin, Mr. Boyd and everybody else that made this event a great success.

Problem Solving (New)

Today students participated in some learning that is targeted at helping students problem-solve. Students learned about a five-step problem-solving process.

  1. What is the problem?

  2. What are my options?

  3. What will or may happen in the future?

  4. Make a choice

  5. Ask an adult for help, if needed.

After learning the process students worked together to apply the process to different scenarios so they could apply what they had learned. Overall it was a great success. Wildcats are such great problem solvers.
