Bus Evacuations Drills (New)

On Friday morning, September 6, 2019, students participated in a bus safety overview and bus evacuation drills. The drills were supervised by First Student (our bus vendor) and Ivy Hall staff. Students learned how to respond in various situations. The safety overview concluded with students learning how to evacuate the school bus.

Car Pick Up & Car Drop Off (New)

ONLY MAKE A RIGHT-HAND TURN ONLY INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, please DO NOT MAKE A LEFT INTO THE SOUTHWEST LOT DURING DROPOFF AND DISMISSAL.

THIS PROCEDURE IS LISTED IN THE PARENT STUDENT HANDBOOK. THIS PROCEDURE HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS. HERE

The traffic pattern for the CAR rolling drop off and CAR rolling pick up is clockwise around Ivy Hall. Your RIGHT TURN should be made from Penny Lane into the lot. NEVER A LEFT TURN into the southwest recess lot.

We have and will continue to have the Buffalo Grove police helping us enforce this procedure. This procedure was developed with the Buffalo Grove Police Department for student safety. Thank you for helping keep kids safe.

*** There are a few commercial vehicles that are permitted to make a left into the south lot. These vehicles do not participate in the rolling car line, but we have no other avenue to load these vehicles. This only occurs during CAR pick up. Thank you for your continued help allowing these vehicles into the lot. They will not join the line in front of you, they will pass on the right side of the line. We also stop the line to allow these vehicles to exit.

Car Pick Up & Car Drop Off

IF YOU ARE WALKING TO THE SOUTHWEST LOT, MEETING A STUDENT, AND THEN WALKING AWAY WITH THE STUDENT …

YOUR STUDENT IS A WALKER DISMISSAL ... NOT A CAR PICK UP DISMISSAL. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER AND MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT ACCORDING (SO YOUR STUDENT IS DISMISSED OUT THE NORTH EXIT).

YOUR STUDENT WILL BE DISMISSED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING BY THE OFFICE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT NEED SUPERVISION IN THE SOUTHWEST LOT AND INCREASE SAFETY.

MAP RIT Scores (New)

We made the decision this year to turn off the ability for students to see their RIT score immediately upon submitting their test.  In past years, this feature has been turned on. Instead, students will receive their scores through an individual discussion with their teacher at some point following the MAP testing window.  In addition, MAP score reports will be emailed to parents on Friday, September 6th beginning at 3pm.

The main reasons for this decision are as follows:

We believe it is best for students that their results are shared personally.  Teachers can help put student results into context and discuss areas for further growth and areas of strength.  A RIT score in isolation does not communicate this level of detail and simply becomes a number to compare themselves to others.

Some of our students have demonstrated a high level of anxiety with the level of sharing that occurs when the RIT scores are shown upon test submission.  This change will allow students to simply take the assessment and not be concerned about the immediacy of the feedback.

Access your child's MAP Student Progress Report (New)

The District will send a School Messenger email today between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm with instructions for accessing your child's MAP student progress report online.  The message will include links to more information about understanding student growth, RIT scores, and general information about the MAP assessment.

Please contact Jeanne Spiller, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching for Learning, if you would like more information about your child's report.  (847) 459-4260 ext. 8010 [email protected]

Stevenson Tutoring - Permission Slip

Stevenson Tutoring is a tutoring program for those students who are in need of a little extra support. This program is for all grades. The first/second-grade program is strictly a reading program, all materials will be provided for your student. The concentration on this program is reading fluency and comprehension. The upper-grade program reinforces what your child is doing in their classroom. Therefore, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will get support from the students who go to Stevenson and are in the Future Educators of America program. They will receive help with their homework and then do other activities to help support their reading or their math skills. This is not an acceleration program.
