May 31, 2019

We began this year with a whole school assembly in the gym and unveiled our theme for the year, “There is Only One You.” The story "There's Only One You" had some great words of wisdom for us to use to help guide our daily lives. All year long, students submitted words of wisdom to be shared with their peers during the morning announcements. I was not surprised to learn that we have so many students that have such great words of wisdom to share with our community of learners. Every student at Ivy Hall Elementary School has grown so much this year and I am already so excited to see what next year brings.

This year at Ivy Hall we worked with students to showcase our leadership skills. We learned that a student can be a leader in a number of different ways. Each and everyday in our classrooms and throughout the school we have students helping lead through opportunities like technology coach, Kagan coach, number corner leader, table leader, videographer, photographer, peer helper, student buddy, team captain, peer upstander, cultural performer and presenter, artist of the week, student-led conferences, and so much more.

As I walk the halls of Ivy Hall and as I scroll the feeds on twitter I am reminded of what an awesome community that we have. Our families, our teachers, and our students work together to build strong, caring, and intelligent students like yourselves. I hope that the memories of fun events with your family and friends are recalled for years to come. Events like the Ice Cream Social, Book Fairs, Ivy Hall Celebrates Diversity, Choral Concerts, Field Day, the Family Picnic are just a few of the memories that you may have from this year.

Being a student at Ivy Hall is about academics, but there is more to a school than just academics. It is truly awesome to come to Ivy Hall Elementary School every day were I see students learning not only the content of school, but the content of life. Through our work together we learn what it means to be a friend to others, and we learn what it means to grow together. Wildcats show the type of kindness and respect that will also help you for years to come.

This is the last principal’s message of the 2018-2019 school year. The next principal’s message will be on Friday, August 2, 2019.

2019 SUMMER READING/ASSIGNMENT–Remember to Read! (Repeat)

We encourage summer reading for all our students. This practice is important–research suggests that students can lose more than two months of academic progress if they don't continue to read during the summer months.

Please see SUMMER READING for the parent letter/reading assignment info and suggested reading resources for your student (by grade level).

We Need Your Help! (Repeat)

It's enrollment season!  As families move into your neighborhood, let them know it's time to register for the 2019/20 school year.  It isn't uncommon for families to wait until August. It helps us immensely to secure our classroom sections.  New neighbors? Spread the word! Enrollment is happening now. School offices are open through June. Registration will continue through July in the District Office at 1050 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.  Also, if you haven't registered your son or daughter and are planning on attending next year, please do so right away. Thank you!
