Ivy Hall Celebrates Diversity: Cultural Performance Guidelines

Cultural Performance Guidelines

ALL PERFORMANCES MUST BE NO LONGER THAN 3 MINUTES. WE NEED TIME TO TRANSITION BETWEEN PERFORMANCES. THIS IS A SAMPLE OF CULTURE NOT AN IMMERSION. WE LOVE EVERYBODY AND ALL CULTURES AND WE ARE DOING THIS TO GIVE EVERYONE AN OPPORTUNITY ON A REASONABLE TIME TABLE.

General Information: The performances will begin promptly at 6:30pm on February 19, 2019. Please plan to arrive by 6:00 on the evening of the event in order to set up and prep for your performance. Ivy Hall staff members will emcee the performances for the evening. All performances will take place in the PE Gym on or near the Ivy Hall Stage at Ivy Hall Elementary School. This is the gym nearest the east parking lot. We will arrange to have 250 seats available.

Who May Perform? Culture performances are restricted to students who attend Ivy Hall Elementary School and their immediate families.

What do we need from you? Parents please provide a small written description, via email, of the performance to the committee coordinator Lakshmi Karpoor [email protected] - . If you will be utilizing sound or video you must indicate this 96 hours prior or sooner and share the content also with committee coordinator Lakshmi Karpoor - [email protected]. The reason we are choosing 96 hours prior to the event is to have all the music or video organized and tested. 96 hours corresponds to February 15, 2019 by 6:30pm.
Getting Ready to Perform: Backstage help for performances will be available. If you will have items like instruments or props of any kind they will be organized backstage. The on-deck area for performances will be in the Ivy Hall music room. The music room has backstage access to the stage. Please check your email on Monday, February 18, for the performance line up.

Notice of 5Essentials Student Survey Administration (New)

I want to inform you about a student survey for 4th–8th graders that will be administered at your child’s school.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. The survey asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

Students will be required to log in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions. Instead, they will receive only aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material, for example.

Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions your student(s) are asked. Find survey questions on the Illinois 5Essentials website  (https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois).

If you do not want your son or daughter to participate, please contact me at [email protected]

For Parents: Sexual Assault and Abuse Awareness/Prevention Curriculum Preview Opportunity (Repeat)

An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault.

Parents who would like to preview the information he will present to KCSD96 elementary students may attend a program with Mr. Pacini at 5:30 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 7, in the Mat Room at Ivy Hall School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.

The age-appropriate presentation to Ivy Hall students will be during the school day on Mon., Feb. 11.

If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request - or your questions - to me at [email protected]
