PTO Ice Cream Social & Book Fair (New)

I want to thank all the volunteers, the PTO, the students, and the families that came out on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, for the PTO Ice Cream Social and the Scholastic Book Fair. Families enjoyed ice cream, had an opportunity to browse the book fair, and socialize with each other. It was really nice to see Wildcats young and old together at Ivy Hall.

Family Educator Conferences (New)

Family Educator Conferences will take place on November 19 from 5-7pm and November 20 from 2-7pm. There will be a link to Sign-Up Genius in next Friday's blog where you can sign-up for a 15-minute conference with District 96 educators.  We encourage all families to sign-up for conferences.  Conferences offer a great opportunity for cooperative conversations between educators and families to best support the development of the whole child and foster each students' social-emotional and academic growth based upon their current needs.  More information will be communicated in my October 12th blog.

ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS (New)

Heroes in the Classroom, sponsored by Symetra and presented locally by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.

Parents, here's an opportunity for you and your student to nominate for recognition the current or former teacher who has made–or is making–a real difference in your child's life.

This Hero in the Classroom is the teacher who goes beyond what's expected and is focused on helping his or her students build life skills.

If selected, the Classroom Hero will be honored with Chicago Bears football regular season game tickets, in-game video recognition, a monetary donation to the classroom, and more.

READ MORE and NOMINATE (online) your family's choice for Hero in the classroom. Please be sure to submit any nominations before mid-November.

Fire Drill - Wednesday, October 3, 2018 (New)

Would you believe that we had a fire drill this week? Students also did a fantastic job during our fire drill. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department was here to supervise and provide us feedback. We did a very nice job. Wildcats are fire safety superstars.

Halloween Parade (New)

Our Parade Route begins at 1:30pm outside of our southeast doors (near our gymnasium and the buffalo). The students will continue north on the sidewalk and then head west past the district office around the building, past the playground and end back at the southeast, Buffalo door.  Please keep your fingers crossed that we have great weather!  In case of inclement weather, we will have an indoor parade for teachers and students only.

Parties (New)

Parties will begin at approximately 2:00pm and end at 2:45pm

Only PTO approved parent party volunteers may attend classroom parties. No siblings are able to attend.

If you are a volunteer, it is recommended that you have your driver's license scanned into our security system prior to party day so that your badge can be ready for you upon arrival.

All party treats must come from the Approved Snack List (see page 3) and brought in to be checked by the nurse. These need to be at school by 9:00 am on October 31st. They can be brought in prior to that and will be kept safely in the office.

Halloween Costumes (New)

As October is here, please help us with the following costume procedures and guidelines....

  • Students will change into their costumes after the lunch period.
  • Costumes must be appropriate for school.
  • Please no masks, blood, super scary stuff, general iciness, or weapons
  • Please no cigars or cigarette items
  • Please no bare tummies
  • Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple
  • Can students go home for lunch to get into costumes?

Students are able to be picked up to go home during their own grade level lunch period. See below for specific times and details. Students will meet their parent/grandparent/family member in the foyer of the school. Please write a note stating that students will be going home for lunch. Students will give their “going home for lunch” note to the staff members who are supervising pick-up. Students need to return to school by the end of their lunch/recess period.

Lunch/recess periods are as follows:

Thank you for helping us to keep our Halloween activities fun and safe!

A WORD ABOUT PARCC ASSESSMENT RESULTS: (New)

Today your student is bringing home his or her PARCC data for the PARCC assessment administered in April 2018. Please check your student’s backpack for these assessment results.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the assessment and accountability measure used for students enrolled in Illinois public schools. Students in Grades 3–8 take this assessment in the academic areas of English language arts and mathematics.

PARCC results show whether your student met grade-level expectations and is on track for the next grade level. Please note that PARCC is only one measure of how your student is performing academically.

The Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) results for current sixth grade students will also be included.  The ISA is administered to students enrolled in grade 5 and grade 8 at their respective grade level.

The ISA measures the Illinois Learning Standards in Science, incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that replaced the previous science standards adopted in 1997. The NGSS are the most comprehensive science standards that Illinois has ever had. They are more rigorous and detailed as they integrate the content of science with the practices of science.

For more information and support in understanding your student’s PARCC assessment results, please refer to the following:

• DISTRICT 96 RESOURCES FOR PARENTS

• ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION  PARCC PLACE

Also, please feel free to direct your questions about your student’s results to the principal of the District 96 school your student currently attends or to Jeanne Spiller, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning- 847 459-4260 ext 8010- [email protected].

Buffalo Grove Police Department (New)

The Buffalo Grove police department and Officer Ashley Krozel have come to our school to observe our dismissal procedures. We have observed and have had numerous reports of parents or vehicle operators deviating from the procedures below. The Buffalo Grove police department shares the district's concern around student safety at dismissal. The procedures below have been formulated in collaboration with the department to ensure student safety. Officer Krozel and I will be reminding vehicle operators of the procedures. Additionally, if your vehicle is parked on a street where there is a NO PARKING sign, the department will ticket your vehicle. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES (Repeat)

Students that take the bus will arrive and board the school bus on the east sidewalk. Only cars that are parking and walking students into school will be allowed to enter the east parking lot from 8:10am-8:25am. At the end of the day, only buses will be permitted in the east parking lot between 2:50pm. and 3:10pm.  Cars that are parked in the east parking lot will not be able to leave during dismissal time.

Parents that drop off and/or pick up their children will enter a rolling drop off/pick up on the west blacktop near the playground by driving east on Penny Lane.  Parents will exit the rolling drop/pick up by driving east on Penny Lane.  All students that are being picked up will exit the building via the west doors where they will be met by faculty.  Faculty members will direct cars through the rolling drop off and pick up and assist students (See Map below).

Students that walk home will only exit through the north and northwest doorways.  Students are not permitted to walk across the east parking lot.
